The Neilson Family
A Life of Community, Commitment, and Connection

Davie, Jessica, and Layla are a blended family who have lived in Forest Ridge since December 2019 in The Highlands IV. However, Jessica is a returning resident to the neighborhood. She and her family first moved to Forest Ridge when she was 12, living in Deer Creek. Her parents still live there today.
Davie? Well, he’s from a little farther away. He was born and raised in the Glasgow area of Scotland and moved to the U.S. in May 1999 when he was just 20 years old. Davie also has two children: Parker, 25, who lives in Edmond, and Allie, 21, a senior at Oklahoma Christian University.
Davie is the Sales Manager at Sawyer Manufacturing Company, which provides construction equipment to the oil and gas pipeline industry across the U.S. and Canada. Jessica is a Key Account Sales Specialist for Affinity Group, a food brokerage company, where she caters to the K-12 division.
Davie has a unique story, having moved to the U.S. at such a young age. He grew up attending church, and one Sunday in Glasgow, he went as usual—only to meet a girl from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was there on a two-year mission trip. After she completed her mission, they married and soon found out they were expecting their first child. Davie is very proud of his decision to move to the U.S. with just $500, a pregnant wife, and a suitcase. He knew that if there was ever a chance to move to the greatest country in the world, it was then.
After many ups and downs, including divorce, Davie followed all the necessary steps to gain U.S. citizenship, which became one of the proudest moments of his life. During his swearing-in ceremony, he recalls the judge saying, “Don’t just be a citizen—we have 300 million of those. Be something more. Give something back to the country that has given you so much.” Within two months, Davie enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 32. Serving his country has been one of his greatest achievements.
Jessica is currently on a mission to obtain her IFBB Pro Card in the Bikini Division of bodybuilding. To date, she has competed in seven competitions, placing in all of them and outright winning the Over 40 division at the 2023 Showdown of Champions in Tulsa. The year 2025 will be a year of "building," as they say in the industry, with her next competition scheduled for September.
Layla assures everyone that she will be a cheerleader for OU and a cheerleading coach when she’s older. She currently cheers for Broken Arrow Gold (entering 6th grade this coming school year) and is proud to be one of the team captains. Layla and her team have competed in several competitions over the years, earning multiple first-place trophies along the way.
Davie and Jessica both love their lives in Forest Ridge. They have made some of the closest friends they’ve ever had over the past six years and love being so close to Jessica’s family. As fitness fanatics, they can often be found taking advantage of the trail system—even in the worst weather conditions. And if Davie ever goes missing, there’s a good chance you’ll find him on the golf course. He has served on many committees for The Club at Forest Ridge, working to improve the member experience.
