Capturing Life’s Beautiful Moments

Amanda Hitchen Photography

Nestled in the heart of Broken Arrow, Amanda Hitchen has been turning life's precious moments into timeless photographs since launching her business, Amanda Hitchen Photography, on February 16, 2020. Originally from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, Amanda moved to Oklahoma in 2012 with her husband, Paul, and has since built a life filled with creativity, adventure, and a deep passion for photography.

A Journey from the Pacific Northwest to Broken Arrow
Amanda grew up in Oregon, where her parents and sister still live, now near Bend. She makes it a priority to visit every year or every other year—especially during football season—to cheer on the Oregon Ducks with her family. After marrying Paul, a dedicated nurse who works at a hospital in Tulsa, she moved to Oklahoma to be with him. Together, they have made Broken Arrow their home and share their lives with their two beloved dogs: Cletus, a Rottweiler, and Mugsy, a Boston Terrier. This combination of breeds is one they have owned before and thoroughly enjoy.

Amanda and Paul are active in their church community, attending Eastside church of Christ in Coweta, where they welcome visitors with open arms. Outside of photography, Amanda enjoys decorating their home, traveling, and spending time with friends—many of whom are also photographers. Together, she and Paul enjoy fishing from their kayaks, taking long walks, walking their dogs, renovating their home, and hosting dinner parties with friends.

The Passion Behind the Lens
Amanda's love for photography took root early. She pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, inspired by National Geographic's breathtaking imagery filled with color and composition. While she once dreamed of working for the publication, she has found immense fulfillment in building her own successful photography business, specializing in weddings and senior portraits.

Her journey to becoming a full-time photographer was not without challenges. After years of balancing photography as a side business, she took a leap of faith when a series of unstable corporate job experiences made her question her future. With unwavering determination, the support of her husband, encouragement from mentors and friends, and a strong faith in God, she turned her passion into a thriving career.

A Unique Approach to Photography
Amanda’s philosophy is simple—make photography fun! She understands that being in front of a camera isn’t something most people do every day and can feel intimidating. Her goal is to make clients feel comfortable and confident by getting to know them, using the best posing techniques, and creating a relaxed atmosphere that allows their personalities to shine.

For weddings, Amanda focuses on documenting special moments and genuine connections that couples and their families will cherish forever. In her senior photography, she sends out detailed questionnaires beforehand to understand each senior’s interests, dislikes, and hobbies, incorporating those unique elements into their portraits. Her attention to detail, organization, and ability to foster genuine connections set her apart, making every session a fun and memorable experience.

A Love for Seniors and Weddings
While Amanda adores working with all her clients, she has a deep love for senior photography, as that’s where her journey began. However, she also treasures the wedding experience—the opportunity to document love stories from the proposal to the big day, capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments that couples and their families will cherish forever. Some of her favorite couples are those she has photographed from their proposal, engagement, bridals, and rehearsal, leading up to their wedding day. Getting a glimpse into their lives and the people who shaped them during such a precious time is what makes wedding photography so meaningful to her.
