Meet Milo & Lucy

Friends For Life!

In the home of Tom and Kim Haese, two inseparable friends have been filling the rooms with love, laughter, and plenty of pawprints for the past decade. Lucy, a tiny but spunky Mini Dachshund–Yorkie mix (better known as a Dorkie), and Milo, a gentle Labradoodle with a heart as big as his curly coat, have grown up side by side since they were just little pups. Now, at ten years old, their bond is stronger than ever, the kind of friendship that makes you believe dogs truly do choose their family. Although Milo & Lucy were originally for their daughters, Caroline and Clarey, Tom and Kim truly know who Milo and Lucy love the most!

You all know Tom, he is the Publisher of this Stroll magazine for the Vintage Oaks community. He wanted to share a bit about his furry family here with his Vintage Oaks friends. He loves all the stories the Vintage Oaks residents have shared for the past two years, and hopes you have enjoyed them just as much.

From the very beginning, Lucy and Milo balanced each other perfectly. Lucy is small but mighty—quick to bark when she wants to play, fearless when guarding her favorite spot on the couch, and always alert to the sounds of the house. Milo, on the other hand, is the calm giant, content to flop his fluffy frame across the floor, wagging his tail slowly while letting Lucy think she’s in charge. Their personalities blend seamlessly, creating a partnership that brings endless joy to the Haese family.

Spoiled? Absolutely. Tom and Kim often joke that they love their four-legged kids almost more than their human ones—and truth be told, there’s some honesty in that. Milo and Lucy live the good life. They relish their daily walks, whether through the neighborhood or down winding trails in a local park, pausing to sniff every interesting corner. Meeting new people is one of Lucy's favorite things to do, while Milo is content just minding his own business.

Treats, in fact, are their greatest weakness. A crinkle of the treat bag sends them scrambling, Milo’s big paws skidding across the tile while Lucy darts ahead, determined to get there first. Car rides bring just as much excitement, the two of them peering out the windows as if the world outside is being shown just for them.

Of course, not everything is fun—like trips to the vet. The minute the office comes into view, both begin to tremble, leaning into Tom or Kim as if to say, “Let’s go home instead.” Yet nothing compares to the joy of reunion. When the family has been away, Milo and Lucy wait anxiously by the door, ears pricking at the sound of tires in the driveway. By the time Tom and Kim step inside, they’re greeted with barking, jumping, wagging, and the pure kind of love that only lifelong best friends can give.

Together, Lucy and Milo remind their family every day that true friendship isn’t just for people—it’s for pups too.
