Refined Eye Care & Eyewear Gallery

Meet Dr. Tompkins

Hi there! I’m Dr. Jessica Tompkins and I am the newest addition to Refined Eye Care &
Eyewear Gallery. I am a therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist and have practiced in
the New Braunfels area for almost 15 years. I am proud to team up with Dr. Audrey Raley as
your friendly neighborhood eye docs and to join her in continuing to provide exceptional eye
care to the New Braunfels community!

I grew up in the Clear Lake City suburb of Houston where NASA Space Center is located.
Growing up, my family would often come to New Braunfels to float the river and visit Gruene. I
did my undergrad at Texas State University, and then moved back to Houston where I obtained
my doctorate of optometry at the University of Houston. During my fourth and final year of
optometry school, I started to really think about where I wanted to practice. My fond memories
of visiting New Braunfels prompted me to look at job openings in the Texas Hill Country, and I
moved to New Braunfels in summer of 2011.

My husband Barry and I have been married since 2014 and we have two children, a daughter (7
yrs old), and a son (4 yrs old). We have really enjoyed raising our kids here in New Braunfels
and feel very blessed by the community of friends who are part of our lives. My brother resides
here with his family as well and we love that our kids get to see their cousins weekly. Our family
loves to be outdoors, to play and watch sports together (tennis, pickleball, baseball, and
football), and we really love to travel when we can! We appreciate everything New Braunfels
has to offer and are proud to be residents here!

My parents owned a small business growing up which helped me appreciate and understand
both the effort involved and the meaningful rewards that can come from contributing to a small
business. They instilled in me the value of hard work and having integrity in the workplace. I was
raised on the belief that trust and care are the foundation of every client partnership.

One of the things I love most about my job is getting to know my patients and providing eye care
recommendations tailored to what fits best with their lifestyle and individual needs. I greatly
value all areas of optometry, but I especially love specialty contact lenses as well as dry eye
management. Specialty contact lenses, such as scleral lenses or hybrid lenses, can be used in
patients who have corneal dystrophies such as keratoconus, are post corneal transplant, have
scarring from previous surgeries such as radial keratotomy (RK), have severe dry eye, or
patients who simply have a significant prescription, among others! I have seen firsthand the
positive impact these specialty lenses can have on a patient’s quality of life and it is truly a
privilege to be involved in that. I can think of a number of Vintage Oaks residents who wear
specialty contact lenses and have been very happy with their visual outcomes.

As for dry eye management, I am a dry eye sufferer myself, so I completely empathize with
patients who experience this condition. Dry eye symptoms can be easily dismissed or
overlooked, but can significantly impact daily comfort, productivity, and overall quality of life.
Many options exist for treating dry eye, and I very much enjoy customizing treatment plans for
patients depending on the cause and severity of their dry eye. One of the aspects about Refined
Eye Care that I love is our variety of dry eye treatments offered, including our IPL (intense
pulsed light) treatment that really targets the inflammatory component of dry eye. I have
personally experienced the relief this treatment can offer and am so grateful to offer it to my
patients.

I consider it such an honor to have patients trust me to care for their eyes. I certainly would not
be where I am today without my faith, the endless support I receive from my husband Barry and
our kids, and the encouragement I have always and continue to receive from my parents,
extended family and friends.

If we have never met, I hope to “see” you in the near future! Our eyesight is a precious gift and
we must take good care of it!

Thank You,
Dr. Tompkins & Dr. Raley
