ELIZA BURNHAM shares her Disney College Program Gap Year!

Eastover resident, Eliza Burnham, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, in April of last year. After graduation, Eliza decided to take a gap year before she officially started a career. Last summer, she was a nanny for a family in New Canaan, Connecticut through the Nanny Network New York run by fellow Eastover resident, Hartwell Furr. At the end of the summer, Eliza applied to work at the Disney College Program (DCP). She was familiar with the program thanks to her friend Riley, a sorority sister from Samford, who had sang the praises of the program. Eliza interviewed with DCP in September and was accepted six days later!

Fast forward to December of 2023, and Eliza received her assignment at Disney - working an attraction in Galaxy's Edge (aka Star Wars World)! She told us that this was a dream come true for her, as her dad, William, had introduced her to the Star Wars movies when she was younger, creating a true fan! Eliza arrived at her new job in January of this year and found out she would be working at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, one of her favorite Disney rides! She went on to tell Stroll Eastover that her time with DCP has been exceptional and she has made fast friends with roommates and coworkers, saying "I love my job SO much, and I can't wait to go to work every day! I love making the guests on our ride laugh and smile. I have come to realize that I may see hundreds to thousands of guests per day, but for that one guest, this will be their only encounter with me. This encourages me to make every moment unique and magical for them and to not get caught up in the repetitiveness or mundaneness of the job."

Cambi Burnham, Eliza's mom, told us, "Eliza is full of life! She is the most dedicated and loyal friend and daughter. She brings undeniable energy to any room she enters. She truly cares about people and takes time to truly get to know everyone she meets."

When Eliza is home in Eastover, she loves walking their family Cockapoo, Baxter, and going for runs around the neighborhood, adding, "I love how many people wave to you in Eastover!"

Thank you, Eliza, for sharing about your fun experience at Disney! Stroll Eastover looks forward to following along your pursuits in the future!
