PRECIOUS PETS OF EAST HIGHLANDS 2025

A Year of Paws, Whiskers, Feathers & Fun!

Charleigh Mae

From doodles and diva cats to tiny Chihuahuas anda surprisingly talented cockatiel, 2025 was a year filled with wagging tails, soft purrs, joyful zoomies, and even a few unexpected serenades. Every month, our East Highlands neighbors introduced us to the furry (and feathered!) companions who bring comfort, comedy, and countless smiles to their homes.
These pets may come in different shapes, sizes, and species—but they all share one thing:
they make our neighborhood feel more connected, more joyful, and more like home.
Here’s a look back at the lovable characters who made this year unforgettable.
January – Charleigh Mae, The Belly-Rub Queen of Villa Avenue
Charleigh Mae, the Marvins' Mini Goldendoodle, brought surprise, joy, and endless cuddles into her home from the moment she arrived. Smart, affectionate, and always ready for adventure, she’s become a neighborhood favorite with her pup-cup outings and park playdates. Her sweet balance of energy and snuggles made her the perfect way to kick off the year.
February – Pebbles, The Leash-Free Legend of East Highlands
Pebbles is the calm, steady Goldendoodle who confidently strolls the neighborhood like she owns it—no leash required. Her gentle heart and simple joys, like a Chuck-It ball or a breezy walk through Villa Oak Park, make her a beloved icon of the community. This month reminded us that sometimes the sweetest pets are the ones who simply show up as they are.
March – Kai, The Coastal Retriever with a Sock-Stealing Smile
Kai, named after the Hawaiian word for “sea,” brings ocean energy and endless charm wherever he goes. Gentle with kids, obsessed with peanut butter, and always ready for a hike or people-watching at Burr Oak, Kai is the perfect blend of adventurer and cuddle bug. His goofy stealing-socks habit only adds to his irresistible personality.
April – Mia, The Blue-Point Diva with a Golden Heart
Mia, the Conners' Blue Point Siamese, reigns as queen of her household—with opera-level meows, sunspot lounging, and constant lap-cat devotion. Born to be adored, she chose her family the moment they walked into the breeder’s home. Elegant, affectionate, and hilariously vocal, Mia reminded us all that every home needs a little feline flair.
May – Murphy, The Lion Hunter Turned Lounge-Chair King
Murphy the Rhodesian Ridgeback has traded his ancestral lion-tracking instincts for patio chairs, family snuggles, and bully sticks. Loyal and protective, he loves forest romps, deer chases, and watching TV like a human. His larger-than-life personality made him a standout star of spring.
June – Rolex, The Feathered Showman with a Million-Dollar Whistle
Rolex, the Cooks’ charismatic Cockatiel, greets Prairie Avenue with wolf whistles, woodpecker impressions, and even the occasional skateboard stunt. Full of charm and mischief, he’s always shredding toys, singing with one claw lifted, or sneaking sips of someone’s breakfast milk. Rolex may be small, but his personality shines brighter than gold.
July – Flynn & Luna, The Persian Lovebirds Running Their Own Editorial Department
Flynn and Luna—the purring duo behind many Stroll East Highlands deadlines—spend their days cuddling, chasing lasers, and “helping” with magazine production. Flynn, the Champion-line red-and-white Persian, pairs beautifully with Luna, his dreamy blue-gray soulmate. Together, they fill their home with laughter, mischief, and purrfection.
August – Frida, The Tiny Chihuahua with the Heart of an Artist
Named after Frida Kahlo, this quiet, gentle Chihuahua brings peace, personality, and tiny tail wags to the Hernandez family. From dancing for cheese to chewing the fuzz off cat-sized tennis balls for years at a time, Frida is a beloved companion through every chapter of life. Her story proves that sometimes the tiniest pets leave the biggest imprint.
September – Theo, The Goldie with a Heart of Gold (and a Talent for Whining)
Theo’s friendly energy and lovable quirks made him an instant hit in East Highlands. Whether dropping tennis balls down the stairs, romping through snow, or shadowing his mom everywhere she goes, he’s pure golden goodness. His “cheesy” nickname and devotion to his family make him unforgettable.
October – Garfield & Nekko, The Rescue Brothers Bringing Double the Mischief
Garfield and Nekko captured the Chivas family’s hearts with their kitten-room charm offensive—and they’ve been running the household ever since. Doglike in loyalty, endlessly affectionate, and always curious, these rescue brothers add humor, warmth, and a whole lot of purring to every day. Their story is a fall favorite.
November – Tito & Fritzy, Small Dogs, Big Personalities, Endless Zoomies
This rescue duo proves that size means nothing when it comes to joy, loyalty, and laughter. Tito is the quiet protector with the world’s softest heart, while Fritzy is a zooming, spinning, toy-tossing burst of fun. Together, they bring energy, adventure, and love to every walk along the DuPage River Trail.
December – Oliver & Madison, The Trick-Master & the Snoozing Sidekick Spreading Holiday Cheer
Oliver and Madison, the Patel family’s dynamic rescue duo, charm everyone with their playful tug-of-war battles, hilarious quirks, and heart-melting loyalty. Oliver’s talent for jumping through hoops pairs perfectly with Madison’s dramatic howls and Zoom-call snores. Warm, funny, and full of friendship, they close the year with joy and tail wags.
