From Little League Dreams to Viking Pride: Mason Corrao’s Story
From running bases at age three to earning a spot on the LCS JV Vikings, Mason’s journey is a testament to hard work, heart, and the power of dreaming big.
Mason began K4 at Lakeland Christian School. On the way to school every morning, we would pass the baseball field. And for so many years, we talked about that day, the day when he would get to play for the Vikings.
Mason started playing t ball when he was 3 years old. He would beg to go to the fields on the weekends to run the bases because he thought he needed to be faster or to hit off the pitching machine that he asked us to buy because he never wanted to strike out. Then, when he was 9 years old he asked to take hitting and pitching lessons. He has always had an internal motivation far beyond his years that has driven his work ethic.
Throughout the years, he’s played travel ball for a few organizations. All of them teaching him so much about the game of baseball and life in general. So many baseball lessons transcend into our daily lives. Coach Rich Luppino that has sadly passed on, taught him that real baseball is played well when the team plays for each other, not their parents or themselves. Coach John Adams taught him that “iron sharpens iron” and to get to the next level they needed to compete against the best. It wasn’t about the plastic trophies but developing them so that when that day came, they would be able to walk out and make their high school team.
That day has come. In 8th grade and at 13 years old, Mason tried out and made the Lakeland Christian School Junior Varsity Vikings baseball team. He is a very talented pitcher that has pitched against Mulberry, Jesuit and George Jenkins. His best inning being against George Jenkins throwing 13 pitches in the 5th inning with 2 strikeouts. We are excited for the years to come with Coach Donovan Jones and Coach Matte Diaz leading his baseball career with the Vikings.
As parents, we are beyond proud of him. He works hard, he’s a great teammate, and he gives it his all each and every game. When his team lost in the Sweet 16 at Cooperstown, Coach Maddux Faber consoled him and told him, “This is just the beginning. There is so much more baseball to come.” I know he’s going to go on to accomplish great things and I love having a front row seat. It truly is, just the beginning.
We would love to invite our community out to a baseball game and to cheer on our LCS Vikings.
