Delivering Smiles and Southern Charm at Postal Haus

Daniel Island is full of friendly faces, and the Gutzwiller family is one you’ll definitely want to know. George and Renee, along with their two energetic boys—Gus (4) and Miles (2)—have quickly become familiar favorites around town. This sweet, adventurous family recently took the reins at the beloved local business now known as Postal Haus, and they’re excited to be an integral part of this amazing community!
Tell us a bit about your family! What are your favorite ways to spend time together, and what do your kiddos love most about life on Daniel Island?
We’re a pretty active crew! Some of our favorite things to do as a family include nightly golf cart rides, discovering hidden gems around the island, and cooling off at the pools. We’ve also created a fun Friday tradition we call “Pizza in the Park.” Each week, we pick up pizza from Orlando’s and head to a different park for a family picnic—it’s something we all look forward to!
What brought you to Daniel Island, and what made you decide to build both your life and business here?
It’s hard to believe, but we moved here nine years ago! I (Renee) took a job at Blackbaud, and George was traveling often at the time. We thought Daniel Island looked like a beautiful and convenient place to live, so we gave it a shot—and we’re so glad we did. Now, nearly a decade later, we’re raising two boys here and feel deeply connected to this amazing community. It’s truly home.
You recently took over Qwik Pack and Ship and transformed it into Postal Haus—what inspired the change, and what can the community expect from the new space?
We’ve been loyal customers of “Mr. Tom’s”—as our boys affectionately call him—for over eight years, and we’ve had a mailbox there for the last six. The opportunity to take over the business felt incredibly serendipitous. George and I had been talking about investing in something—maybe a business, rental property, or a retail space for my Island Haus brand. One morning, while walking our oldest to school, we stopped to check our mail and started chatting with Tom. He mentioned he was looking to sell, and the rest is history!
We’re keeping all the same great services the community has relied on for years, but we’ve added some fun new touches—like expanded gift and stationery selections. We’ll also be launching monthly creative workshops this fall and offering kids’ crafts and art supplies starting this summer!
What has the rebranding process been like for your family, and what’s been the most rewarding part so far?
Rebranding has been an absolute blast! I love the creative side of things, and it’s been so exciting to bring our ideas to life. The most rewarding part has been the support from the community—seeing familiar faces, hearing encouraging words, and knowing that we’re making a positive impact. Taking over an established business is no small task, especially after someone as beloved as Tom, but the kindness and patience of our customers have meant the world.
