The Cline Family: Living Life Together

Meet Philip, Nicole, Carlie, Kendall, Chase, Mason, Sadie, and Thomas

The Cline family values community, family, and making every moment count. They enjoy spending time together outdoors, whether paddleboarding, playing volleyball, taking walks with their dog, or gathering around backyard fires. Weekends often include trips to local parks, the Outing Club pool, or exploring Bettendorf and Davenport on skates, scooters, or rollerblades.
Food is central to family life, from grilling ribeye steaks, pork steaks, and homemade hamburgers to sharing Taco Pie, a long-time favorite recipe. The family also enjoys exploring local restaurants like Duck City, Ruthie’s, Red Ginger, and family pizza nights.
Travel is a cherished tradition for the Clines. Every January, they head south to destinations like Jamaica, Cancun, the Dominican Republic, or Hawaii, often traveling with extended family. The boys have visited Puerto Rico for scuba diving and surfing, and the family hopes to one day visit Western Samoa to connect with Phil’s mother’s heritage.
Sports play a big role in family life. Chase, a sophomore at St. Ambrose University, plays on the men’s volleyball team, while Mason, Thomas, Carlie, and Kendall have all participated in baseball, volleyball, track, soccer, cross country, choir, and more. The family cheers on their children and enjoys watching their favorite teams, including the Hawkeyes, Bears, and Cubs.
The Clines love music, from island reggae concerts in Chicago, Las Vegas, and Minneapolis to daily drives listening to K-Love. Nicole enjoys Frank Sinatra-style tunes while cooking, and Christmas music fills the home from November through December. Movies are a family affair, with action films, thrillers, Hallmark favorites, and—much to Nicole’s dismay—horror films for the teens.
Family traditions are an important part of life. Halloween is celebrated with themed costumes, sometimes including Phil’s mother flown in from Utah, and birthdays are marked with a favorite meal, ice cream, and heartfelt expressions of love. Weekly date nights, an annual adults-only trip, and yearly family vacations ensure Phil and Nicole stay connected as a couple and as a family unit.
Community involvement is another priority. Nicole serves on the boards of the Outing Club, Nahant Cline, and Downtown Davenport, while Phil volunteers with the kids’ schools and sports teams. Together, they support local organizations including United Way, the Figge Art Museum, QC Symphony, Make-A-Wish, Habitat for Humanity, St. Ambrose University, the QC Chamber of Commerce, and HAV Life.
Having lived in their neighborhood for 20 years, the Cline family cherishes the close-knit community, where neighbors look out for one another and children play safely together. Whether relaxing with friends, enjoying water and sun, or simply walking in the neighborhood, the Clines embrace a life full of family, fun, and community.
