Colorful Holiday Crostini
These little bites are a perfect appetizer for you to make for your own party or to bring to someone else’s. They are incredibly easy to make and look very festive... The happiest of Holidays to you all from the Kozlin family.
INGREDIENTS:
1 baguette (for approximately 24 slices)
½ lb of prosciutto (or any thinly sliced ham)
13 oz round of Brie cheese (cut into 4 even quarters)
1 jar of jam (your choice of flavor….can be store-bought or homemade)*
½ cup of chopped walnuts (toast them for an even richer flavor)
Olive oil (for toasting the baguette slices)
Balsamic glaze (store bought or homemade)
1 clove of garlic
Mint, Basil or Arugula for garnish
Festive toothpicks
*I used my homemade strawberry jalapeño jam in my recipe. The sweeter the jam, the better for this recipe.
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Slice the fresh baguette on the bias (diagonally), and put each slice on an oven tray.
Drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some kosher salt on each slice.
Toast in the oven for approximately 8 minutes or until the edges are brown. You’ll want a sturdy crostini to support the cheese, etc.
When the slices are toasted, remove from the oven and rub a garlic clove over each slice. This will add some nice garlic flavor to each bite. Set aside.
Slice each of the 4 quarters of Brie approximately ¼ inch thick. You should have 6 slices of Brie from each quarter.
Place a slice of Brie onto a slice of crostini. Repeat for the remaining 23 slices.
Then, add your thinly sliced prosciutto to each slice.
Top each with a dollop of jam and place a sprig of mint (or basil or arugula). Secure with a festive toothpick.
Sprinkle some chopped walnuts on each crostini and drizzle with some balsamic glaze (I used a store-bought balsamic glaze for this recipe and it was great).
Put these beauties on a festive platter and you are ready to share this wonderful, festive appetizer.
