Hard Work & Big Heart
Jonny Urias, owner of Kamtreyurias Renovations LLC (soon to be Urias Builders LLC) tells us his story of how he got to where he is today - helping the people of the Lowcountry bring their dreams to life with their homes and outdoor spaces.

Our First Generation family business, Kamtreyurias Renovations LLC, has been a long-time dream of ours since I was a young boy. My father, Adulfo “Choco” Urias, migrated to the U.S around 1990, from Mexico, to provide and build a better future for our family. After I was born in 1997, a couple of months later, my mother and I joined him living in Atlanta for a couple of years. In 2001, my sister was born, and we moved to a new state, South Carolina, and have resided here since.
Growing up, I remember my father and mother working hard to provide us with food, shelter, toys, clothing, and trips. Every summer and school holidays, my sister and I would split between our parents. I would go to work in construction with my father as his “get-me”, bringing everything from materials to tools. Other days, when the weather was too harsh, I would accompany my mother cleaning houses throughout HHI. Even though I did not want to go most of the time, I learned very important life lessons. My father was a very tough and demanding person, making me witness the hard labor many endure to get by; reminding me that if I become lazy, not leaving my comfort zone, I will never become anybody and that I need to take advantage of this beautiful country many dream of becoming a part of.
That life lesson has stuck with me, as I witnessed my mother and father both go through life-changing health issues. My mother had fallen at work, which resulted in back pain, then leg mobility issues, and her being diagnosed years later with a collapsed spine. Today, I am still working on accumulating the funds for her to have a spinal fusion that may be the solution to finally stopping her discomfort. In 2019, my father was diagnosed with life-threatening heart disease, and the doctors originally recommended a heart transplant. While having consultations with other doctors, one doctor recommended the alternate option, a titanium valve replacement, which we went with.
This was my time to step up to the plate. Taking the advice my father had been teaching me since I was a young boy - don’t be lazy, and to step outside my comfort zone.
This brought me to my decision to finally return home (to the Lowcountry) to be with and take care of my parents. We opened Kamtreyurias Renovations in 2020 and worked as specialty contractors under other builders. Now I have a wife, son, and daughter I provide for, along with my parents. Many customers have been amazing with us, and with this, I will continue to work hard and give back to my community. This company allows me to take care of my loved ones, and this I cannot ruin this. I pledge to become the best construction company in the Lowcountry, planting a seed for my children and grandchildren to reap for years to come.
I have reached my dream of becoming a Licensed Residential General Contractor, our company name is changing from Kamtreyurias Renovations to Urias Builders LLC.
