For senior Maya Gomaa, the halls of Anderson High School have been more than just a place for classes—they’ve been a training ground for leadership. A resident of Coldstream for nearly a decade, Maya has spent her high school years leaning into every opportunity to grow. Whether she is leading initiatives as the President of the Anderson Teacher Academy or competing at the state and national levels for Educators Rising, Maya is constantly pushing herself outside of her comfort zone.
"Through programs such as Teacher Academy, Regional Youth Leadership, and College Credit Plus, I have been challenged to develop leadership skills and take ownership of my education," Maya shares.
Home Life & Heritage
Maya’s world is anchored by her family—her dad Ali, her mom Dina, and her older brother Adam. The Gomaa household is also guarded by two loyal German Shepherds: 11-year-old Loki and 3-year-old Ranger. When she isn't busy with her rigorous academic schedule, you’ll likely find Maya traveling with her family, trying out new restaurants, or engaged in long conversations with friends.
Passion in Action Making a Meaningful Impact: A Heart for Others
What truly drives Maya is the ability to create a positive ripple effect in the lives of others. Her community involvement is extensive, ranging from volunteering with CancerFree Kids and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to mentoring and tutoring younger students.
"What makes me happiest is being able to help others and create meaningful impact," she says. "Leadership and service give me a sense of purpose and motivate me to continue growing". This dedication to others even extends to her professional life, where she works as a nanny and babysitter, roles that have helped her develop a deep sense of empathy and responsibility.
Creative Perspective
One of Maya’s "hidden" talents is her love for photography. For her, the camera is a tool for storytelling, helping her appreciate the small, everyday details that others might miss. This creative outlet provides a vital balance to her busy life, teaching her patience and perspective.
Favorite Memories
While she stays busy year-round, Maya values the importance of finding balance. Her favorite getaway so far was a family trip to Aruba. "The experience allowed me to relax, spend uninterrupted time with the people I care about, and appreciate new cultures," she recalls.
Looking Forward Dreams and Determination
Her Biggest Hero Maya attributes her success and drive to her mother, Dina. "My mom is my biggest hero," Maya says. "She has consistently modeled resilience, kindness, and determination. I realized just how much I have grown and how deeply her guidance has shaped who I am today. I owe every part of my success to the incredible woman I am so grateful to call my mom".
The Road to Law
Maya is already looking toward her next big chapter. She is committed to the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business Honors program, where she will study Business Economics on a pre-law track. Her ultimate goal? To become an in-house corporate attorney where she can continue to use her voice for others.
A Wild Dream
When asked about her "wildest dream," Maya’s answer remains rooted in her values of service. "One of my biggest dreams is to make a lasting impact on someone’s life for the better," she says. "Knowing that I helped someone grow, succeed, or feel supported would be the most rewarding achievement imaginable".
With her track record of leadership in Coldstream and at Anderson, there is no doubt Maya is well on her way to opening doors for many others.
