A Big Tortoise with a Big Personality
Ralphie's favorite food is apples!
Ralphie is a 23-year-old Sulcata Tortoise, a gentle giant who would surely win a lettuce-eating contest!
How did you find your pet?
Ralphie lived with a family in Sarasota. When the daughter left for college he was given to a tortoise sanctuary. Ralphie did not do well at the sanctuary with other tortoises. He needed a family to care for him so we adopted him in 2019.
What are some of your pet’s favorite things to do with you?
Ralphie loves to have his shell rubbed!! He's very social and always appreciates visitors especially if they bring him treats!
Does he have pet friends in the neighborhood?
Ralphie hangs around with our two dogs, Mabel and Hazel.
What do you love most about your pet?
Ralphie is very calming. Just being around him is a mood-lifter.
Does your pet enjoy special treats?
Ralphie loves apples!!
Does your pet have any special talents?
Ralphie can eat three heads of romaine lettuce in less than 3 minutes!
Any funny stories?
We had a scary moment a while back. After some severe rain, the boards in his pen warped and weakened. The day we left for vacation our pet sitter notified us that Ralphie left too! We were out of state and had tons of people searching for him. No one could find him. Surprisingly the day we got home from vacation Ralphie came home too!! He took his own vacation!

Ralphie is super sweet and a gentle giant. He will engage with you just like any other pet and loves to interact with people.
