Sandestin Shark Tennis Players Qualify for States!

The Sandestin Sharks is a local tennis club that competes in spring and fall championship leagues each year. The team is coached by Jim Gray, the Junior Coordinator at the Sandestin Resort, and the team captains are Christie Karis, Mandy Skinner, and Brian Elza. The team just finished the regular season for the USTA Okaloosa/Walton County Junior Team Tennis League. We had four teams that participated in the league. Each team is composed of five to six kids and broken up by age groups.

Sandestin had two 12-and-under teams and one 14-and-under team.  In the 12-and-under league, our teams took first and second place, and qualified for the state championship. In the 14-and-under league, our team took first place and also qualified for the state championship, which was held in Tampa in June. There will be teams from all around the state of Florida in attendance.

Athletes attending from the 12-and-under team are Maisie Camargo, Espen Ellingsen, Kylie Karis, Caroline Klima, Tripp Skinner, Baylor Elza, Callie Skinner, Eva Nelson, Camden Quartuccio, and Jackson Warren.  Athletes attending from the f14-and-under team are Jalen Camargo, Lincoln Elza, Caroline Mullins, Piper Carden, Jack Heizer, and Kinslee Camargo. Many of these athletes train year round out of the Sandestin Tennis Center where they take group and private lessons.

The Tennis Center is open year round and features 12 clay courts and three hard courts. For more information you can contact the center at 850.267.7110 or email to tennis@sandestin.com.
