Buster and Winnie Crane – The Perfect Pair of Pups
Bossy Buster Crane - Miniature Goldendoodle
The Crane family—Wesley, Alison, and children Lily (7) and Ben (5)—moved to Buffalo Creek in January 2021. Their dogs, Buster the Mini Goldendoodle and Winnie the Wheaton Terrier, entered the Cutest Dog in the Neighborhood contest last September. When asked to provide a descriptor for the pups Alison described them as “Bossy Buster” and “Whimsical Winnie,” fitting their personalities perfectly.
Buster, nearly 10, is the alpha dog in the household and has been with Wesley and Alison since 2016. He was named by Wesley for his rambunctious puppy energy. He is light tan in color with dark shining eyes and snout and the long floppy ears characteristic of the breed. Buster is described as intelligent—often seeming to read Alison’s mind. He’s also athletic, still leaping high and chasing squirrels, rabbits and (his favorite) lizards. A bit cautious, Buster is selective in his approach to meeting new people and pets.
The Cranes rescued Winnie, a 3–4-year-old Wheaton Terrier, from the Little Elm shelter this past April after months of considering a companion for Buster. Alison spotted her on Pet Finder and, knowing Wesley had grown up with Wheatons, Alison drove to the shelter to meet her. Originally named Charmin by the shelter, Winnie was overweight and severely matted. A vet was coming the next day to spay her but the shelter discovered, before Alison left, that she had already been spayed. Alison was able to bring Winnie to her forever home that afternoon.
The new puppy was briefly named Honey by Wesley before Alison and Lily suggested “Winnie,” which stuck. It took a few months for Winnie’s coat to grow out after she was shaved at the shelter, but today her coat is soft, furry, and honey-colored. Winnie is cuddly, silly, and adored by Lily and Ben. She loves car rides—so much so that one day she snuck out of the house during a Fed Ex delivery and hopped in the passenger seat of the Fed Ex truck! Every afternoon Winnie anxiously waits at the garage door to join Alison for school pickup—while leaving Buster home to enjoy quiet time.
Buster and Winnie have been inseparable from the start. They play great together and while Winnie recognizes Buster as “the boss”, she joins in the fun of scattering toys throughout the house and enthusiastically chasing him during his evening zoomies. Both love bath time but avoid the pool, and while human food is rare, Wesley occasionally sneaks them a taste while smoking meat on his Green Egg. With the cooler weather finally here, you’ll often spot Alison in the neighborhood walking them together on a dual leash, keeping them side by side and in step.
Buster and Winnie Crane are the perfect pair of pups for the Crane family, bringing endless joy, laughter and love to the family.
