Leisha Pickering: Creativity, Compassion, and Community Impact

Musee Bath's owner and creator is giving back to the community in a big way.

For the past five years, Leisha Pickering has called Bridgewater home—a place she chose for its sense of safety, warmth, and genuine community. When she first visited her home, she could immediately picture where the Christmas tree would be. Though the interior was entirely white at the time, she saw it as a blank canvas ready to express her creativity and style. That moment of connection sealed her decision—Bridgewater simply felt like home.

A devoted mother of five sons, two daughters-in-law, and two granddaughters, Leisha balances family life with her passion for service, creativity, and entrepreneurship. A former pastry chef in Washington, D.C., she combined her love of high-quality ingredients and artistry to found Musee Bath in 2011. Her goal was both simple and profound—to create handcrafted bath products that bring joy to customers while providing meaningful employment in her Mississippi community.

Musee Bath’s signature “Bath Balms” are made with nourishing ingredients such as essential oils, shea butter, milk bath, and honey, offering both luxury and care. But what truly sets Musee apart is its mission. The company provides second-chance employment for women in recovery from incarceration and addiction, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their lives through stable, fulfilling work.

Leisha’s impact has been far-reaching. She was named Citizen of the Year in Mississippi for her work following Hurricane Katrina, during which she founded HANDS (Helping Americans Needing Disaster Support)—a nonprofit that distributed over $50 million in supplies to the Gulf Coast. Musee Bath has also earned national acclaim, appearing on Oprah’s Favorite Things three years in a row and being featured on the Today Show and Good Morning America.

Her proudest achievement, however, is not the awards or recognition, but the lives transformed. Musee has provided employment to more than 500 women, each writing a new story of resilience and hope. “Building Musee and seeing the difference it’s made in people’s lives has been my greatest reward,” Leisha shared.

Faith continues to guide Leisha’s journey. She is an active member of Fondren Church, where she leads a Bible study, and she has served on numerous boards, including Habitat for Humanity, Young Life, and Belhaven College. Her advocacy for vulnerable women and children remains central to her life’s work.

Leisha’s advice for young entrepreneurs is heartfelt and practical: “Take risks and take it one day at a time.” It’s wisdom she’s lived by—pursuing ideas with compassion, creativity, and love.

Through her business, her community service, and her deep faith, Leisha Pickering continues to show that beauty isn’t just something we see—it’s something we create when we care for others. “We all have the opportunity to impact our community and change our world,” she declared, and her life stands as a clear example of that truth.
