Eclectic Elegance on Summer Lake

Eclectic Elegance on Summer Lake
We are so excited to share with you a stunning outdoor living design project in the neighborhood. Bridgewater resident Martha Ross Thomas said about her home, “this screened veranda and its expansive views of Summer Lake were compelling reasons for our purchase of this particular home!"
Martha told us, "this project first started during the Covid era when we invited friends to join us outside (at a “social distance”) for cocktails and a light summer supper on the veranda. Over the next few years, Martha worked with Erik Kegler of EK Home and the design took shape as Erik refined the space. "
As far as the design of the space, Martha says, “the lengthy but narrow veranda is divided into three living areas: a dining area, a cozy seating area, a larger seating area. Erik faced a challenge of unifying these separate spaces. He utilized our set of Asian panels and doors to construct a beautiful fretwork surround at one end of the veranda under which he placed a sideboard buffet (formerly part of an antique vaisselier) which he adapted with an Asian motif facade. At the opposite end, he placed a newly lacquered Asian console. Each piece is painted Benjamin Moore’s Warm Springs (the same color as the ceiling). To further tie the interior and exterior spaces through colors and concepts, Erik painted the Indonesian benches a fresh white with fuchsia accents. Even with the diversity of furniture and spatial use elements, the eye travels easily across this harmoniously blended design “
Martha had this to say about Erik, "we have been thrilled to work with Erik to create a colorful, comfortable outdoor oasis. Because the veranda is visible from multiple rooms of our home, Erik wanted to assure compatibility of design and color of the interior and exterior spaces. We have a vibrant color palette inside which carries over to the outside. Erik has been a master at understanding our eclectic aesthetic, utilizing and sometimes refurbishing our prized existing pieces, adding to the collection with carefully curated new items (often constructed for the space), and making the end result an intentional, cohesive, and unique design. We are so pleased! "
Thank you Erik Kegler and Martha Ross Thomas for sharing this spectacular outdoor space with Stroll Bridgewater. We absolutely love it! Thank you to EK Home for being a long time partner with both Stroll Bridgewater and Stroll Eastover.
