Discover Adventure and Build Character

Why now is the time to join Scouting America

In a world filled with distractions and digital overload, Scouting America offers youth something uniquely powerful: real adventure, lifelong friendships, and the chance to grow into a confident, capable leader. Girls and boys can learn first aid skills, scale a rock face, paddle across a pristine lake or sit around a campfire under a starlit sky. Scouting is more than outdoor fun, it’s a foundation for character development and a community that supports every step of their journey.

What Is Scouting America?
Scouting America serves all youth from kindergarten through high school with age-appropriate programs designed to grow with your child. Cub Scouts (ages 5-10) focuses on hands-on fun activities, outdoor adventures, and foundational values, while ScoutsBSA (ages 11-17) emphasizes leadership development, specialized skills through merit badges, and community service.

With trained adult leaders, proven safety protocols, and flexible meeting schedules, Scouting America brings families together through shared adventures while giving every child a place to belong and thrive.

Building Character That Lasts a Lifetime
As Scouts earn badges and camp, they learn how to become their best selves. Through hands-on learning and real-world challenges, youth develop essential life skills:
  • Leadership & Responsibility – From planning camping trips and managing budgets to teaching younger Scouts and organizing service projects.
  • Resilience & Problem-Solving – Learning to adapt when things don't go as planned and persist through challenges.
  • Service & Citizenship – Discovering the importance of helping others through food drives, environmental cleanups, and community projects.

These values aren't just learned — they're lived. At Western North Carolina's Camp Daniel Boone, Scouts step outside their comfort zones and return home with a stronger sense of self and purpose.

Why Join Now?
Research shows Scouts are more likely to graduate high school, attend college, and become community leaders. For Scouts who pursue and earn the Eagle Scout Rank, they have achieved something that will often be respected and commended by colleges, employers, the military and will open doors throughout their lifetime.

Immediate benefits are just as compelling. Your child will gain confidence, make lasting friendships, and develop practical life skills in a supportive community of like-minded families. The need for grounded, compassionate leaders has never been greater—and it's never too late to start.

Adventure is calling. Character is waiting to be built. Join Scouting America today — and be part of something extraordinary.

The local Daniel Boone Council, Scouting America, serves youth across 14 counties of Western North Carolina.
