What’s your fitness routine? I’ve been a runner for more than 20 years and I try to run most days of the week. After I gave birth and approached my late 30s, I started reading more about the importance of strength training for women. Thankfully around that time I met some of my new neighbors, who highly recommended Burn Boot Camp. I tried a week of workouts and have been going ever since (almost two years now). Now I aim for strength days at Burn three days a week, and I run on the other days.
What do you love about Burn? I love the camaraderie and accountability. I’ve had trouble sticking with strength training for longer than a couple of months, but with Burn camps it’s much easier for me to show up, with familiar faces and friends, for 45 minutes.
What’s your favorite type of workout? At Burn Boot Camp, it’s full-body strength. It’s the hardest protocol for me, but I like how diverse the workouts are.
Where do you like to run? I feel lucky to have a longstanding weekly run with a couple of female friends (including a Biltmore Park neighbor) at Bent Creek. We’ve trained for 5Ks to marathons together and have seen each other through many phases of life over the past few years. You can cover a lot of topics during long runs in the woods!
How do you stay accountable or consistent? I’ve learned that to be the best at my job is to take care of myself first. It helps that my husband has the same philosophy on health and exercise, so we cover childcare for each other while we run/work out.
What motivates you? I think of the times I’ve surprised myself while hitting a fitness goal. I’m motivated by thinking of the women I know who are able to juggle so much in life while achieving their fitness goals.
