Celebrating Lives of Purpose

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, I've found myself thinking about the people who make communities like Bermuda Run such special places to call home.
When we look back on our nation's history, it's easy to focus on the major events and well-known names. But the truth is, our country has always been shaped by ordinary people who quietly choose to serve others. People who lead with integrity, volunteer their time, care for their neighbors, invest in their families, and work to leave things a little better than they found them.
As I read through the stories in this month's issue, that theme appeared again and again.
You'll meet Roy and Kathy Benson, whose nearly 70-year journey together is a testament to service, resilience, sacrifice, and enduring love. You'll also meet Karl Haigler and Rae Nelson, whose remarkable careers took them from classrooms and military intelligence offices to the Pentagon and the White House before ultimately bringing their talents and leadership to Bermuda Run.
What struck me most about these stories wasn't the impressive accomplishments or titles. It was the way these individuals have consistently used their gifts, experiences, and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.
You'll see that same spirit throughout this issue. It's reflected in the volunteers serving local families through Serving Our Neighbors, in the Davie Women's Auxiliary and their commitment to community outreach, in the supporters of SECU Family House who provide comfort and hope during difficult times, and in the many residents who continue learning, growing, and staying engaged in every season of life.
As we celebrate America 250, I'm reminded that the values that built our nation are still alive and well right here in Bermuda Run. Service. Compassion. Perseverance. Faith. Community. These aren't just ideas from the past. They are values we see lived out every day by the people around us.
Before I close, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to two of our newest community partners, Dustin and the team at Flanary Brothers Landscaping and Christiana with Ivy Roots Wellness. We are grateful for their investment in our community and look forward to introducing them to you in the months ahead.
I also encourage you to support the businesses you see featured throughout Stroll. These local partners make this publication possible, and when you choose to support them, you're helping strengthen the relationships and connections that make our community so special.
And speaking of connections, I hope you'll join us for an upcoming Stroll Sips event. Be on the lookout for our Wine Stroll Sips gathering coming in August. These events have become one of my favorite ways to bring residents and local business partners together in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Whether you've lived here for years or are new to the community, it's a wonderful opportunity to meet neighbors, make new connections, and simply enjoy a great evening together.
Thank you for helping make Bermuda Run such a remarkable place to call home. Whether you're volunteering, serving on a committee, supporting a local organization, mentoring others, or simply extending kindness to a neighbor, you are helping write the next chapter of our community's story.
As you enjoy this month's issue, I hope you'll be inspired by the stories of service, purpose, and connection that fill these pages and reminded that each of us has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact right where we are.

Warmly,

Stephanie Hearn
