Turning Pages Together - Kinderton Village Book Club

Greetings once again from the Kinderton Village Book Club,
On a warm summer evening, following an afternoon spent relaxing and swimming at our beautiful community pool during this extraordinary heat wave, members gathered once again at the clubhouse at 6:30 PM for an evening devoted to literature, conversation, and fellowship.
This month’s featured selection was Serena by Ron Rash. Few contemporary authors portray the Appalachian region with the same authenticity and insight as Rash, whose writing is deeply rooted in the culture, hardships, and rugged beauty of mountain life. Through vivid storytelling, he captures the isolation, poverty, moral conflict, and unforgiving realities that defined the Great Depression era.
Serena is a haunting and powerful novel exploring themes of unchecked ambition, corruption, violence, and humanity’s complicated relationship with nature. Under the continued guidance of our exceptional moderator, Connie Alf, members engaged in a spirited and thoughtful discussion of the novel’s richly layered characters and unsettling themes. In the end, the group awarded this remarkable work an outstanding rating of 4.75 out of 5.
Looking ahead, our upcoming selections include A Painted House by John Grisham on July 14th and Contagion by Robin Cook on August 18th. As always, a good book not only enriches the mind, but perhaps even extends one’s lifespan!
In addition, all residents are warmly invited to attend an authentic Luau celebration on August 22nd from 4:00–8:00 PM at the clubhouse as we celebrate the close of another memorable summer season. The evening will feature delicious food, festive games, creative crafts, and live entertainment by the talented Hummingbirds. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian attire for the occasion.
Until our next gathering, we wish everyone a wonderful summer filled with good books, meaningful conversation, and the enduring joy of shared stories.
Warm regards,
 Trish Strickland
