Davie Women's Auxiliary Learns About Serving Our Neighbors

The May meeting of the Davie Women's Auxiliary was both inspiring and eye-opening as members gathered on May 20 at the beautiful Sugar Valley Airport to learn more about one of Davie County's most impactful nonprofit ministries, Serving Our Neighbors.
Members were warmly welcomed to the airport by Julia Burazer, president of Serving Our Neighbors, who graciously hosted the group and provided an informative tour of the airport facilities before the meeting began. Her hospitality and enthusiasm set the tone for an afternoon centered on community service and compassion.
The program featured a presentation by Sue Boggs, who shared the mission and daily work of the mobile food pantry organization. Serving Our Neighbors provides food assistance to individuals and families throughout Davie County who are unable to afford regular visits to grocery stores or supermarkets. Through dedicated volunteers and generous community support, the ministry delivers food directly to those in need, with regular stops in Cooleemee and Mocksville.
Boggs explained how food is obtained, organized, and distributed through the ministry, emphasizing the growing need for food assistance in our community. Members learned how the organization works tirelessly to ensure that no family feels forgotten during difficult times.
One of the most moving moments of the meeting came when volunteer Esmi Lorenzo shared her personal story of homelessness and hardship. Lorenzo spoke candidly about what it feels like to struggle to provide food and stability for children while facing uncertainty and limited resources. Her heartfelt testimony deeply touched those in attendance and offered a powerful reminder that many families in our own community quietly face challenges that are often unseen.
Today, Lorenzo gives back as a volunteer for Serving Our Neighbors, helping others who may be walking the same difficult road she once traveled. Her story was a testament to resilience, hope, and the life-changing impact of compassion and community support.
Auxiliary Projects and Community Support
In addition to learning about Serving Our Neighbors, members also discussed several ongoing projects and fundraising efforts currently underway by the Davie Women's Auxiliary.
Members are also actively preparing for the Blueprints & Birdies Golf Tournament to be held at Oak Valley Golf Club. The tournament will raise funds to support Habitat for Humanity of Davie County and its mission of providing safe and affordable housing opportunities for local families.
Additionally, the Davie Women's Auxiliary is proud to serve as a Silver Level co-sponsor of the June 18 golf tournament at Pudding Ridge Golf Club benefiting Impact of the Piedmont.
Through these projects and partnerships, the Davie Women's Auxiliary continues to fulfill its mission: promoting fellowship among women in Davie County while supporting charitable organizations and community outreach efforts that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
