Serving Our Community Together
Davie Women’s Auxiliary – Spring News
It has been a busy and meaningful season for the Davie Women’s Auxiliary (DWA). Our April meeting was held at beautiful Bermuda Village, where we welcomed guest speaker Stephanie Chandler, Executive Director of Family Promise of Davie County.
Stephanie shared several eye‑opening statistics about housing insecurity in our community:
- The average rent in Davie County is $1,700 per month
- To afford that, a family needs an income of $5,700 per month
- At any given time, 5–10 families are waiting for shelter
- An additional 10–15 families are waiting for financial assistance
- Since 2017, Family Promise has helped over 700 families and more than 1,200 children
- More than 90% of families who complete the program remain housed one year later
It was a truly informative and inspiring presentation.
Quilt Raffle Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday
During our business meeting, Gaye Orsini presented quilt raffle information and introduced the stunning queen-size quilt donated by the Davie County Quilting Queens. The quilt features a red, white, and blue patriotic design in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday.
The quilt is currently on display at Habitat ReStore Davie County in the Bermuda Quay Shopping Center on US 158. We invite you to stop by, admire the craftsmanship, and purchase raffle tickets:
- $5 each
- 5 tickets for $20
The winning ticket will be drawn during the concert intermission (approximately 7:30-8:00 pm) at the 4th of July Celebration at Davie Community Park located at 151 Southwood Drive in Mocksville. You need not be present to win.
All proceeds will be donated to Habitat Davie Critical Repair Program, which provides essential home repairs to help residents remain safe in their homes.
Blood Drive Success
On April 21st, Habitat Davie ReStore hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. DWA members volunteered to register donors and assist throughout the day. It was a joy to greet neighbors, offer snacks, and support such an important cause.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we exceeded our goal, collecting 30 units of blood against a target of 27.
On behalf of DWA, Habitat Davie ReStore, and the American Red Cross, thank you for helping save lives. Your willingness to show up truly makes a difference.
