It was a sunny Saturday afternoon called “Easter Eve” by eight friends who lived on the same street in Kinderton Village (KV). Mirroring the excitement felt on Christmas eve, there were whispered huddles, last minute giggles, a quickly breathed prayer and then the presentation of our first Kinderton Village Easter play. Written, rehearsed, set design, and performances all accomplished by our eight friends. We had been practicing for weeks with a team of girls sketching in a notebook and vocal rehearsals alongside a team of boys sharing Easter jokes. The cast consisted of grades sixth and below and included: Hannah A., Gabbi C., Jenna, Jason, and Allie H., Addy and Boden L. and Jackson and Charlotte O.
“There were a lot of prayers and a lot of work,” said 10 year-old Gabbi remembering the hard work and determination of both her and her pals.
As a play in two acts, the musical included handwritten songs and Allelujahs, there was an intermission of corny Easter jokes and then began the play itself, with added scripture readings, prayer, and a wonderful acting job from the Kinderton Village children. The story of the play was the retelling of the resurrection of Christ and the joy of Mary’s heart as well as a mother prompting her three children to fall asleep and awaken to the childrens’ special homegrown chorus: “Hey, hey, hey, Easter is here!” The audience included mostly mature KV residents and these children sure shined the light of Christ to all who were present and proved that the true meaning of Easter is Christ and His resurrection.

The day before Easter that afternoon
Kids from the neighborhood ran around,
picking flowers that bloomed.
Why were they doing that?
For the Easter play on that Sat!
We all worked hard to get it done.
Thankfully, that day there was warm sun!
What a wonderful time to glorify our Lord.
Without Him there would be no us and no world.
The Easter story is wonderful and true.
And to celebrate at springtime, when the world seems new.
All the glory of our play goes to Him,
all the work, poems, play, and hymns.
Thank you to everyone who came.
We hoped you enjoyed it – thank goodness it didn’t rain!
