Golfing for A Good Cause

Bermuda Run West, Brotherhood of Charity

You may remember a Stroll article last year about a group of Bermuda Run West men who played golf every Monday morning.   Each man threw $10 into the “pot” and the winning foursome took the prize.

The game changed when someone got the idea of contributing some of that prize money to charity.  Some players donated a portion of their winnings; others donated all.   At the end of the year a significant sum was divided among various local charities including Storehouse for Jesus, Crisis Control Ministry, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Clemmons Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, and several others.

These gentlemen soon began to think of ways to make an even greater impact on the community by raising more money than they did in 2023.  The group’s goal is to raise at least $10,000 in 2024 to help those in need. New goal – new name; the organization is now the Bermuda Run West Brotherhood of Charity and is a donor-advised fund with the Davie Community Foundation.  All donations will be made through the Foundation.

Since we live in a golfing community, it was decided to hold a fund-raising tournament on June 19 of this year at Bermuda Run West.  You DO NOT have to be a member of Bermuda Run to play in this tournament, and your $60 entry fee includes greens fee, golf cart, water, and soft drinks.   Can’t play golf? Donations to the Brotherhood of Charity are welcomed and will be put to good use.

Don’t have a foursome?  No worries – the tournament committee will find one for you.   The tournament will be a “scramble” which allows players of all abilities to enjoy the game and help their team.  Several on-course events – hole-in-one, water raft (hit a ball into a raft floating on a lake), longest drive and closest to the pin on par 3’s will add even more fun and give you a chance to display your skills – or lack thereof. Hey – it’s all for fun and to help the less fortunate – and if you want some “do-overs” you can purchase mulligans at Registration Check-In.

Registration forms can be picked up at the Bermuda Run East or West clubhouses, or by       e-mail request.  Drop off your completed form with check at either clubhouse or mail it to BRW Brotherhood of Charity, c/o Keith Huskins at 118 Sycamore Park Lane, Bermuda Run, NC 27006.
