A Love That Stands the Test of Time
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I set out in search of the couple who have been married the longest at Bermuda Village. That search led me to Miriam and Henry Nicholson. An extraordinary couple with a truly remarkable love story.
By the time this goes to print, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson will have celebrated an incredible 75 years of marriage on January 20th. And as if that milestone wasn’t impressive enough, by the time you’re reading this, Mr. Nicholson will also have celebrated his 100th birthday!
Their story began many years ago at a party at Duke University. At the time, both Miriam and Henry were seeing other people, but something about that evening stood out. After the party, Mr. Nicholson got Miriam's number—and, as they say, the rest is history.
When asked the secret to their long and happy marriage, the Nicholsons shared that they’ve only ever had one fight. The details involve a lighthearted disagreement over grapes. After a few days of the silent treatment from Mrs. Nicholson, and communication happening through their children, all was forgiven, and their love carried on stronger than ever.
Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson, and Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Bermuda Village. Your love continues to inspire us all.
