Meet Alabama Dennard!
Quick on her feet and always alert!
At just 11 years old, Alabama Dennard is already showing a strong passion and dedication to volleyball. A student at Rooster Springs Elementary, Alabama has been playing the sport for three years and currently competes with the Skyline 11’s Lite volleyball team, traveling throughout the Austin area for games and tournaments.
When asked what she enjoys most about volleyball, Alabama had a hard time choosing just one thing. “I love everything about it,” she said. “But if I had to pick, it would be how fast-paced it is. It can get very exciting!” That energy and enthusiasm clearly show in the way she approaches the game.
Alabama credits much of her development to one very important mentor, her dad. “He’s very good and strict,” she explained. “He wants me to always be better.” Having a coach at home who pushes her to improve has helped Alabama continue to grow as a player.
Her list of sports heroes includes her mom and dad, along with a few well-known professional athletes like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. She also looks up to Henley Anderson, a varsity volleyball player at Dripping Springs High School who inspires her to keep working toward playing at that level someday.
One of Alabama’s favorite volleyball memories came when she attended the Dripping Springs High School volleyball finals with her mom and had the chance to meet several LOVB Austin players. Getting to meet professional player Khat Bell, one of her favorites, made the experience even more special.
Alabama has already begun building an impressive list of accomplishments. While playing in the DSYSA fall volleyball league, she was selected as her team’s captain, an honor that shows both her leadership and commitment to the sport.
For Alabama, some of the best moments in volleyball come after the final point. “Celebrating our team victories!” she said when asked about her favorite sporting moment.
Looking ahead, Alabama plans to continue playing volleyball through high school and beyond.
Her advice for young athletes interested in volleyball, “Always keep your eye on the ball. One time at practice I wasn’t paying attention and the ball hit me in the face. Lesson learned! Also, have fast feet and make good decisions.”
With her determination and love for the game, Alabama Dennard is a young athlete to watch.
