The Sweetheart

A special Valentine’s Day flavor created by Jennifer Downey, Founder of Cereal Works.

INGREDIENTS
  • 20 oz Kellogg’s Strawberry Milkshake Frosted Flakes
  • 12 TBSP Salted Butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 30 oz Mini Marshmallows
  • 1 oz Freeze Dried Strawberries (crushed)
  • 2 oz Strawberry Jello mix
  • 10 oz Dark Chocolate Chips
  • 2 oz White Melting Chocolates
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Start by rubbing the inside of a 13 x 9 with butter until well-greased.
  2. Poor your 20 oz box of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Turn your stove top on to medium heat and add 12 TBSP of Salted Butter to a nonstick Dutch oven or similar.  Stir until melted and browned.
  4. One butter is browned, quickly add salt and vanilla and stir.
  5. Then add 20 oz of mini marshmallows and stir until nearly melted.  You may have a few puffs of marshmallows remaining, but you do not want to overcook.
  6. Turn off your heat and add the crushed freeze-dried strawberries and 2 oz of your strawberry jello mix.  Stir vigorously to combine.
  7. Once combined, pour marshmallow mixture over your cereal in your large mixing bowl and stir until cereal is completely coated.
  8. Once cereal is completely coated, add in the last 10 oz of mini marshmallows and stir them in.  They will remain whole.
  9. Pour your finished mix into your 13 x 9 or larger greased pan and press with butter wrapper or greased spatula.
  10. Set aside your 13 x 9 pan and allow it to cool.
  11. Melt your 10 oz of dark chocolate in a microwave safe dish using 15-30 second increments, stirring between each increment until your chocolate is fully melted.
  12. Pour the melted dark chocolate over the top of the 13 x 9 pan of cereal treats and smooth it out with a rubber spatula or knife.
  13. Repeat the melting process for the white melting chocolates.
  14. Once melted, pour your melted chocolate into a piping bag or disposable zip lock bag.
  15. Cut the very corner of the bag and drizzle the top of your dark chocolate with the white melting chocolate.
  16. Allow your treats to set up for at least 2 hours.  Cut and serve.
  17. Store at room temperature for up to a week in an airtight container.
