How to Attract Wildlife in Belleair

It’s a jungle out there, and that can be a good thing!  A short history lesson: "Lawns” as we know them today originated in England. The idea of cultivating grass outside of livestock production was seen as a sign of “status." It was, and still is, very expensive to grow and maintain a “lawn."  So, is stepping away from turf grass and allowing nature to grow (as it did before people took over) okay?  Yes!  One of the Florida-friendly landscaping principles is Attract Wildlife.

This yard is certainly doing that. There’s room for birds to nest, rabbits to hide, and insects to burrow in debris.  Did you know we’re losing a significant percentage of our insect population due to habitat loss and pesticide use?  Be part of a successful food chain in nature.  Go a little bit wild!
