Community Bonfire Excursion
One of the winter excursions I really enjoy is the annual bonfire tradition in Freeport. This is a free community event on Choctaw Beach at Nick’s Seafood Restaurant. This is a well known large locals celebration every year in January or early February. This year is set for Feb. 7th 2026 at 5:00. That is when they light the bonfire to get the evening started.
The bonfire party has been an annual tradition for over a decade. We usually arrive around 4:00 to ensure plenty of parking and seating in the restaurant for a large group. There is plenty of parking , but it does get full as the evening progresses. Prepare to enjoy delicious fresh seafood at Nicks restaurant and a beautiful view .The food is excellent home cooking and made to order. The best fried green tomatoes I have ever had! They do not accept dining reservations ,but they have no problem accommodating large groups. We dined as they were getting the bonfire started. Our group brought blankets, lawn chairs and coolers to set up for the evening outdoors. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the Choctawhatchee Bay after dinner. As the sun sets the blaze gets higher and higher! You will experience one of the biggest bonfires anyone has ever seen! As the fire grows the band Velcro Pygmies begin to play. There is plenty of space on the property for setting up your spot for the night. The fire is really wide and tall and burning brightly in the evening sky. Watch out for the flying embers! One ember landed on a jacket and burned a hole in it! The fire is warm and cozy, just don’t get too close like we did. If you are interested in excellent food, live music, and a fun time with friends and family this is an excursion for you.
Try a night out at Nick's Seafood Restaurant and experience their annual bonfire. A long standing tradition you don’t want to miss! Check out their menu, story, and events on nicksseafoodfreeport.com. We love taking you places!
