Whether it's on a small, elegant ship or a mega ship with all the activities and amenities of a state-of-the-art amusement park and a world-class resort combined, a cruise is often the perfect family break. Mom and dad get to reset, too! No cooking, no cleaning, no driving, no chores! Just fun. There is literally something for everyone, even if that something is happily doing nothing. Every moment of the day can be filled with an array of activities and adventures you can’t find at home: you will be as busy and entertained as you want to be. Or you can dedicate yourself to total relaxation. The stage is set for that too!!
Our last big ship adventure was on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. It looks very large, because it is. And because it is, we never felt crowded. We were gleefully overwhelmed, not by people, but by choices! Lines for the surf-rider, climbing wall, and other experiences were almost non-existent; there was no wait to eat or dine anywhere, and the ‘adults only’ sections were beautiful, quiet, and almost uninhabited. Most afternoons, the adult-only sanctuary in the bow of the ship served as our private pool, bar, jacuzzi and lounge. And the youngsters bounding from slide to courts, surf-rider to pool to climbing-walls, arms sticky with dripping ice cream, were exhausted by the end of the day. Kids’ clubs were geared to every age and the Perfect Day at Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s private island, was just that—perfect for everyone. Then there is the food, and the shows, and the bars and dancing. And the baby-sitting, uh, I mean kids’ clubs. Tots through teens, the kids’ clubs are a hit!
We are lucky to have the Caribbean a stone’s throw away. One of the world’s most beautiful playgrounds, the Caribbean boasts beautiful islands and waters, world-class diving, snorkeling, fishing, and dining. The islands are so varied, each with its own history, languages, culture and vibe. There is a cruise and an itinerary to fit every budget and spring break dream!!
