More Than Sit and Stay: How Dog Academy Transforms Dogs—and Their Owners

Owner Andrea Mullins uses her skills as an animal trainer and veterinary technician to work with even the most difficult dogs (and owners). With over 25 years of experience, Andrea understands that every owner desires something specific from training. “Dog Academy makes it possible with a vast amount of training tactics learned over decades of personal experiences,” she noted.

Andrea began her relationships with animals from a very young age. “I grew up in Aiken, South Carolina, and got my start by training my horses, then later found I have a natural ability to train dogs,” she shared and added that she mentored under some of the creators of modern-day methods. At Dog Academy, the training methods are tailored to the needs of the dog. “Training is never cookie cutter.” Sometimes the connection between the dog and the owner has been broken by behaviors that seem out of control. Andrea said her favorite part of this work is “the ability to repair the relationships between the owners and the dogs.”

Not only does it take time for dogs to learn all the commands and skills to be an awesome pet, but the owners have work to do, too! Dog Academy offers a five-week private Day School, where you can drop your dog off to be trained and pick it up at the end of the day all tired out from practicing and socializing with the other dogs. The Day School involves the owner in the training process with nightly homework as well. “You, the owner, are left to do the work during the days and hours in which your dog is with you,” Andrea explained. They also offer board-and-train options that incorporate the same commands and manners as Day School.

All training at Dog Academy includes house/potty training, come (recall), heel (leash walking), kennel/bed (going to and staying), sit/stay/wait/sit at stop, down, down/stay, behavior modification, boundary training, and more as determined by the dog and owner. After training sessions end, owners have access to private lessons and group classes that accompany the training, as well as lifetime furever support via email, phone, or text. Advanced Training is also available for those seeking training for Therapy Dogs and other activities that require your companion to be reliable, under control, and well-mannered while in public.

In addition to Day School, Dog Academy also offers Learning Days free to the public to educate people on everything dog. Private lessons, group classes, boarding, and daycare are also available. Of course, all dogs are required to be up to date on age-appropriate vaccines.

Dog Academy is located in Lynn Haven and all services are by appointment only. For more information, call Andrea.  If you have a troublesome pet, Dog Academy might be the answer!
