Meet Callie and Hobbes

Callie in her birthday hat

Our family has called this neighborhood home since July 2008 and we have had the joy of watching our children grow up here, and now our four legged friends, Callie and Hobbes.
Hobbes (8 years old) and Callie (1 year old) are Spanadors, a delightful mix of Cocker Spaniel and Labrador Retriever. Both were adopted through the Austin Cocker Spaniel Rescue. Hobbes joined us as a Christmas surprise after years of our kids begging for a dog. When we later heard the rescue had another litter of Spanadors, we couldn’t resist. At the “Meet the Puppies” event, Callie instantly stole our hearts and joined the family soon after.
Hobbes is named after the character from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, a favorite in our household when the kids were younger. Just like his namesake, Hobbes is playful, a little mischievous, and always ready for an adventure. When we brought Callie into the fold, her name was a natural fit—a playful twist on “Calvin”—giving us our very own "Callie and Hobbes."
Hobbes takes his guard duties seriously. He’s always on high alert, barking at anything that moves near the house (apologies to the golfers on the 12th hole). Callie is our social butterfly. She's laid-back, friendly, and always eager for belly rubs. Her cheerful energy has been a great match for Hobbes’s more serious personality.
Both dogs know their basic commands: sit, shake, lie down, and Callie even rolls over on command, earning her plenty of treats. Neither is especially good on a leash, but we’re optimistic Callie will improve with time. Hobbes prefers dry land, while Callie is a water lover who never misses a chance to splash around.
When it comes to toys, Hobbes loves to destroy squeaky pigs, while Callie has a bad habit of chewing shoes (we’ve lost at least eight pairs!). If Hobbes had his way, his dream adventure would be an off-leash hike full of digging and exploring. Callie would happily tag along, especially if it ended at Mutt’s Canine Cantina, her favorite place to meet new dog friends.
We’re so grateful to share this neighborhood with you, along with Callie and Hobbes.
