For over a decade, the BackCountry community has been more than just a place to live for our family; it's a sanctuary filled with breathtaking hiking trails and a welcoming atmosphere that we adore. And at the heart of our family adventures is our beloved dog, Maximus. Maximus, a vibrant 5-year-old brindle boxer, entered our lives most delightfully. Our daughter spotted him in a pet store, and although many of our dogs have been rescue pups, we couldn’t resist bringing him home. Naming him was quite the challenge; after much deliberation, we decided to make it a fun family activity, drawing his name from a hat filled with our favorites. From the very beginning, Maximus has showcased a personality as huge as his name suggests. His affectionate nature and love for playtime with other dogs make every walk an energetic affair. For us, he isn’t just a pet; he’s a crucial member of our family, bringing joy and laughter into our everyday lives. With the typical charm of boxers, Max has developed the amusing habit of “talking back.” When he wants something or is eager to engage in play, he ensures everyone knows it! His enthusiasm is contagious, and whether he’s requesting a treat or simply looking for fun, he never fails to elicit smiles from all around him. Maximus has an affinity for dog toys as well; however, his remarkable strength poses a challenge. With his powerful jaws, toys don’t last long in his possession, but we believe that the joy he derives from them makes it worth the frequent replacements. We decided to take Maximus on a family trip to Huntington Beach, anticipating that he would relish the sandy shores and crashing waves. To our surprise, the sounds of the ocean unsettled him, and he quickly opted for the safety of our rental car, leaving us chuckling at his cautious nature. In every story we create, Maximus enriches our lives. Whether it’s through his playful antics or the love he brings into our home, life in BackCountry with him is a cherished adventure we wouldn’t trade for anything.
