Each year, the Fill A Backpack program, spearheaded by A Precious Chil, a nonprofit organization based in Broomfield, CO, makes a significant impact on our community. Focused on empowering children in the Denver metro area who are facing poverty, homelessness, or other challenges, this initiative provides brand-new backpacks filled with essential school supplies. 

This year alone, the program successfully distributed an impressive 11,700 backpacks, offering local kids a fresh start and much-needed confidence for the new school year. **

My Journey with Fill A Backpack 

My involvement with Fill A Backpack began seven years ago, rooted in a passion for community service and a desire to give back. I started small by organizing giving campaigns in our neighborhood. After creating a wish list of needed supplies to share with friends and neighbors, we’d gather for a backpack-stuffing event at my home with my children and family friends. What began as a simple project quickly grew year after year, attracting more families eager to contribute. 

Today, the initiative has evolved into a dedicated team of volunteers known as the Backcountry Cares Club. This year, we proudly packed over 400 backpacks, each filled with the tools children need to succeed in school. 

Why This Matters to Me

For me, Fill A Backpack transcends the act of providing school supplies. It represents a community rallying together—showing our children that they are cared for and that we believe in their potential. Each backpack symbolizes a boost of confidence and a glimmer of hope for the recipients. One of the highlights of this experience is watching families come togethe, fostering a spirit of collaboration, where kids help other kids. It reaffirms my belief that when offered the chance, people are eager to make a positive difference.
