Pet of the Month: Meet Günter the Boxer!

This month, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Günter, a 10-year-old male Boxer who has captured the hearts of everyone in his neighborhood. His family has lived here for four years, and it’s hard to imagine life without this lovable pooch.

Günter’s journey began when he was rescued from the South Plate Valley Humane Society five years ago. His name used to be “Gunther,” but his new family decided that dropping the "n" and the "h" made it feel more personal and fitting, (and then they added the little ‘Motley Crue” dots above it to make it even better and more German). It couldn’t be more perfect for this playful pup!

Before finding his forever home, Günter lived as a stray in the Colorado wilderness for nearly nine months. Despite facing challenges during that time, evidenced by some scars he still bears—Günter has settled in wonderfully. His family believes he spent time with another family before them, but it wasn’t the right match. Now, he shows appreciation every day through his love and loyalty, keeping a watchful eye over his human siblings and their home.

One thing that stands out about Günter is his incredible speed. While he’s slightly shorter and stockier compared to other Boxers, he’s a true speed-demon, outpacing any dog he plays with. His family loves watching him run, it's a sight to behold! Günter also has a particular fondness for bones. He can spend hours enjoying a good chew, and his family ensures he always has one on hand. Not only does it keep him entertained, but it also helps keep his teeth clean and healthy.

Perhaps the family’s favorite memory is the day they brought Günter home. It was clear from the start how grateful he was to be part of a loving family, and he quickly became a cherished member. Rescuing a pet, they believe, is one of the most rewarding experiences, transforming a life while gaining a loyal companion.

As Günter ages, he’s become something of a homebody, preferring the comfort of his backyard and family over long adventures. However, he enjoys outings to the pet store or visits with relatives around Colorado, as long as he’s included! In the future, Günter’s family hopes to take him to the beach. They imagine how delightful it would be for him to feel the sand between his paws and see the ocean for the first time.

So here’s to Günter—our “Pet of the Month”! He’s a testament to the joy of rescue, reminding us all that a little love can go a long way.
