Come Celebrate, Savor & Explore With APWC!

February and March provided a wealth of opportunities for Augusta Pines Women’s Club members to celebrate friendships, savor fresh experiences, and explore places beyond our usual neck of the woods!

APWC is happy to report that one of our newest initiatives has already begun to blossom. At our February luncheon, guest speaker, Lisa Varholy of Meals on Wheels Montgomery County described the process for becoming a meal delivery volunteer. Lisa explained that the homebound seniors along a delivery route not only receive a warm meal, they also receive personal contact they might not otherwise experience during the entire day, if not for the smiling faces of MOW volunteers. Recently, APWC put together its first team of MOW volunteers, who’re working a Monday delivery route and loving it. Our goal is to add substitute delivery team members as well as a team to start a second delivery route.

There was a full house for the Mardi Gras-themed February luncheon, and many attendees came dressed for the occasion, bedecked in Mardi Gras beads, plumed party headwear and other carnival season accoutrements. Our cocktail of the month was the Zydeco, and attendees capped off their meals with coffee and king cake.

APWC’s Galentine’s Mani-Pedi Party took place the day after our luncheon, and the event was a big hit. Members came together for a lovely afternoon at The Venetian Creekside, where they were treated to discounted nail services, as well as a selection of wines and munchies provided by APWC. The surprise treat of the afternoon was a round of delicious marshmallow soup shots for our entire group, delivered by the chef and staff of Rise Souffle, located just a few steps away from the nail salon. The event was a wonderful opportunity to relax, chat, and receive a little pampering in preparation for the Valentine’s holiday. Thank you to The Venetian Creekside and Rise (including our own Jennifer Bailey, who is an indispensable staffer at Rise) for making the afternoon so memorable!

APWC members were excited to present our club’s donation check of over $2,500 to the dedicated volunteers at AAR - Abandoned Animal Rescue! Our February trip to AAR’s rescue and adoption center in the Magnolia area included up close and personal time with some of the cute and cuddly residents of their facilities.

Members gathered in February and March for Coffee Talk, a monthly non-RSVP meetup for morning java at well-reviewed coffee shops across our local communities. The inaugural meetup took place at Blue Door Coffee Company on Waterway Avenue in The Woodlands, and in March, members visited Bluestone Lane on Lake Woodlands Drive. If espresso is an integral part of your life, you will want to check out this highly caffeinated group! Our February activities culminated in an expedition to some of the most popular resale shops in the Montrose/River Oaks area of Houston, along with a leisurely lunch at a’Bouzy on Westheimer.

APWC’s March luncheon was a celebration of rodeo season, and attendees arrived in fun and fabulous western attire. Our cocktail of the month was the Buckaroo, and the winner of our luncheon door prize received a gift certificate for a free massage at a local spa.  We continued our rodeo state of mind the very next week with APWC’s annual trip to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

Club activities for April are already springing into action, with our recent April luncheon as well as our upcoming Spring Fling Happy Hour set for Thursday, April 11. Next month promises to be just as inviting, as we embark on our final outing of the 23-24 season, a trip to Phoenician Specialty Foods on Westheimer and lunch at nearby Cafe Caspian, on Thursday May 16th.
