Nashville Continued

"You either love Nashville or you're wrong."

For these avid readers of Travel Tales (if there are any), you know we traveled to Nashville in January of 2023 for my daughter-in-law's baby shower. We went back recently for my grandson's first birthday. Luckily, the party was near Nashville so we could continue to explore this wonderful city.
The first evening, we booked "The Soul of Music City Night” tour. The trolley tour, led by a talented singer, explored the different venues and recording studios throughout the city. We heard stories while our guide sang and played the music of the artists who recorded in the various studios. We also saw the Nashville skyline and notable landmarks along the way. Book early as these tours are popular.
We were also lucky to score "Backstage guided tour" tickets at "The Mother Church of Country Music", the Ryman Auditorium. Sometimes referred to as the "Carnegie Hall of the South", the tabernacle converted into a music venue was originally home to the Grand Ole Opry. Bluegrass Music was first played here in 1945. The Ryman continues to host artists from all genres so check the website before your visit.
We also enjoyed the Johnny Cash Museum, located right off Broadway. As I age, I find myself admiring the "Man in Black" not only for his songwriting talent but also his role in various social issues like prison reform, mental health awareness, Native American causes, and many others. The museum is a tribute to this National Medal of Arts recipient.
Continuing our visits to US State Capitols, the Tennessee Capitol is one of the oldest working Capitols in the US opening in 1859. President James Polk and his wife are buried on the grounds.
Lastly, a "treat" for us was the Goo Goo factory tour and chocolate cluster-making class. There are two versions of how the company got its name. One story was the owner was offering tastings of his yet unnamed candy. A customer was asking him about his family, and he mentioned his new son had just said his first words, Goo Goo. The customer promptly said, “You have your name!” The other tale was the company sponsored the Grand Ole Opry and the company used the initials to name the candy. Next time, I am signing up for the wine and chocolate tasting tour.

A few restaurants/bakery recommendations:

-Dino's Bar- Voted best dive bar in Nashville. Great for a late-night burger
-Five Daughters bakery-claim to fame is their 100-layer donut. Great cookies and breakfast biscuits
-12/30 Club -Justin Timberlake and Sam Fox restaurant right on Broadway. Cool decor and dining options include the fine dining or the Honky Tonk. Great rooftop bar and the entertainment was spectacular.
-Biscuit Love- a popular brunch place but lines move fast. Delicious homemade biscuits and awesome grits.
-The Butter Mild Ranch- recommended by friends, it did NOT disappoint. The most amazing croissants I have ever tasted. Try the Brown Butter Beignets as well.

We agree with the famous adage, "You either love Nashville or you're wrong."
