“To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before"

These lyrics filled my mind and seemed fitting as I began to write the story of Toni Zody and her 4 precious pets, Barkley, Marley, Griffin, and our featured Pet, Zoey Zody. Twenty-five years ago, Toni moved into her new home in Arrowhead Lakes, and she created a beautiful, pristine home with white carpet and white furniture. Void of animals or messy humans she was pleased, but as fateful moments happened, everything was about to change. One day, after months of watching a stray dog from the window of her office she went outside to see her. The once unapproachable dog came home with Toni that day, and Barkley paved the way for the three sisters that would eventually be adopted into the family.
Toni's life was forever changed as she replaced the white carpet with tile, covered the furniture, and created a special room called the "Dog Room" for toys and accessories. Huge, framed photos of each girl dog adorn the walls, and the love they have shared radiates from their faces.
Zoey is the only remaining sister and has adjusted to having Mom all to herself. She is friendly, sweet, and talented. As our visit was ending Toni quietly told Zoey to howl and without hesitation, Zoey tossed her head back and began to howl. It was melodic with perfect pitch and reminiscent of a night in the wild. When she was told to stop, she put her head down and was instantly silent. Learning that Zoey is friendly to everyone but will only walk or hike if her mom is present, confirmed the obvious affection and the communication they share. Toni promises that Zoey will be her last pet, but it is hard to imagine that her tender heart will be able to keep that promise.
