It's All In the Details!

April’s yard of the month winner is 31 East 50th St, home to Bobby and Elaine Hughes. The couple lived next door for 25 years and when their lifestyle changed 5 years ago, they built this beautiful home on their side lot. Their inspiration for the yard was the old one, to have mature plants so it would look they have always been there. Some of the camellia's and the ligustrum are from the previous yard. Elaine designed the yard herself and had the help of Josh Beckler of B-Design Studio help with the installation. We missed the azaleas blooming by a few days, but the yard is still stunning! The different textures like the use of the gravel and boxwoods make it worthy of a countryside manor house. Elaine is all about the details, a strategic placed hat and sweater, rye grass in pots to hide Easter eggs for her grandchildren and seasonal decor. When asked about her favorite part of the yard, without hesitation she said the backyard. That’s where her personality is expressed. She likes to sit out there and hear the trains. Yup, most Ardsely Park people complain about them, but to Elaine it’s a sweet memory of living downtown and her Granddaddy who drove the horse and buggy for Annette’s Dairy farm to deliver milk. Thank you Elaine for sharing your secret garden with us. Special thanks to Hester & Zipper for graciously providing gift cards to our winners.
