DC & Palmer
One Leads. One Loves. Somehow, It Works.
DC
A Brotherly Arrangement
Some pets are companions. Others are characters.
And then there are DC and Palmer—two labradoodle brothers who have turned coexistence into an art form.
And then there are DC and Palmer—two labradoodle brothers who have turned coexistence into an art form.
They are, technically, brothers. In practice, it’s more of a long-running negotiation.
DC arrived first, handpicked as the runt of the litter, immediately establishing himself as small, strategic, and entirely unwilling to be overlooked. From the beginning, he operated as though attention wasn’t earned—it was owed.
Palmer came later.
While DC settled comfortably into life as the household’s sole focus, a quiet campaign was underway—and eventually successful—to bring home a second dog. Palmer joined the family soon after.
DC has never quite forgiven anyone involved.
Opposites in Every Way
The contrast between them couldn’t be sharper.
DC operates with a sense of entitlement—possessive of space, toys, and attention. He has little interest in toys at all…unless, of course, it’s one Palmer happens to be enjoying.
Palmer, on the other hand, is all heart. Loyal, affectionate, and endlessly optimistic, he moves through life with warmth and patience. He loves freely, forgives quickly, and remains devoted to a brother who routinely steps over him.
Their relationship is cordial…in the way rival politicians are cordial.
And yet, together, they run the household with remarkable efficiency:
DC through dominance. Palmer through devotion.
DC through dominance. Palmer through devotion.
The humans assist where needed.
From Family Roots to Ansley Park
DC and Palmer joined the family in December 2015—just before Christmas—after being selected from a litter connected to Chris’s dad’s dog, making them family in more ways than one.
Their names each carry meaning. DC was inspired by Chris and Jeffrey’s time living in Washington, D.C., before returning to Georgia, while Palmer was named by his mom’s human.
Now eleven years old, the brothers have lived in Buckhead, Blue Ridge, and Castleberry Hill before settling into Ansley Park six years ago.
“We love the neighborhood feel, yet being right in the city,” their family shares. “You can leave the car at home, have plenty to do, or just stay close and be completely content.”
Daily Life (and Expectations)
These days, the brothers have fully embraced neighborhood life.
They patrol the backyard for potential critter encounters, monitor the neighborhood from their bay window like seasoned observers, and treat every doorbell as both a security alert and a full-speed sprint across the house.
They enjoy meeting other dogs—but don’t exactly engage.
They prefer to observe…quietly judging from a distance.
They prefer to observe…quietly judging from a distance.
They’re also creatures of routine—particularly when it comes to dessert. What started as an occasional ice cream treat has since evolved into a nightly expectation.
Favorite Spots & Simple Joys
When they’re out and about, DC and Palmer are happiest wherever their people are—but they do have a few favorite stops.
The Midtown Butcher is high on the list, where they’re known to receive ground beef treats with each visit. Long walks through Piedmont Park and time spent on patios round out their local routine.
And if they had their choice? The beach—every time.
Summers in Provincetown remain a highlight, where they can run, fetch, and swim freely in the ocean—completely in their element.
One Leads. One Loves.
Despite their differences, their bond is undeniable.
“They are both perfect,” their family says. “They have rich, loving personalities and don’t do anything too bad—it’s all honest and innocent. They’re family, and they exist very naturally as one unit.”
They may not share toys.
They may not share attention.
They may not share attention.
But they share a life—and somehow, that’s more than enough.
One leads. One loves. And together, they’ve created a rhythm that works beautifully for everyone around them.
