Dede & Lola
The Princess and the Wild Child – Dede and Lola are Ansley Park’s Unstoppable Duo
Strolling...
For twenty-four years, Virginia and Bill McFerrin have called Ansley Park home. They love the neighborhood’s small-community feeling and the daily pleasure of walking its tree-lined streets. Their companions on those walks are two much-loved dogs: Dede, an elegant eleven-year-old King Charles Cavalier, and Lola, a lively five-year-old Golden Retriever.
Dede, formally known as Lady Diana of Ansley, was purchased by the McFerrins’ son from a breeder in Madison as a way to lift spirits. True to her regal name, Dede is gentle, refined, and perfectly polite. She can often be found curled up on her favorite furry blanket or perched comfortably on a pillow in Virginia’s lap during car rides.
Several years later, just as Virginia was recovering from hip surgery, Bill decided to bring home Lola. Her name continued a family theme of goldens named Lulu and Layla. Unlike Dede’s ladylike calm, Lola is brimming with energy—a joyful presence most neighbors recognize instantly. From the very first time she spotted the water at the McFerrins’ farmhouse, Lola became an avid swimmer. Whether leaping from the dock to chase fish or proudly tossing her blue rubber bone into the air, she thrives on activity and adventure.
The family’s fondest memories often take place by the water: Dede happily riding along in the boat while Lola splashes and swims nearby, a perfect reflection of their contrasting but complementary personalities.
Life in Ansley Park provides plenty of everyday joy as well. On walks, Lola enjoys a playful “through-the-fence” friendship with Bella, the four-pound terrier next door. Both dogs relish outings to local shops, happily accompanying Virginia on errands to Free People, the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, and other dog-friendly stores.
Together, Dede and Lola embody the best of both worlds: one calm and dignified, the other spirited and adventurous. For the McFerrins, they are not just beloved pets but treasured members of the family, adding warmth, energy, and joy to life in Ansley Park.
