From Gilbert Roots to Fitness Revolution: Meet Felicia Romero from Ohm

Sharing her journey from law school dreams to leading a wellness movement in her hometown

Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family.
I was born and raised in Gilbert and am proud to be a Gilbert High School graduate, class of 2000. My roots run deep here. My mom still lives in the same house I grew up in, right in the heart of downtown Gilbert behind what’s now Whiskey Row. I come from a long line of Gilbert residents; my grandfather, or Tata, worked the land picking cotton and stacking hay back in the day.

I was raised by a strong single mother alongside my two younger sisters, and our close-knit family taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and community. Sports were a big part of my life growing up, and they eventually led me to play softball at Arizona State University. Gilbert isn’t just where I’m from, it’s a part of who I am.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.
Interestingly, I began my journey with the intention of pursuing a career in law. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, but during that time, something unexpected happened—I started personal training clients out of my garage, just as a side hustle. That experience completely changed the trajectory of my life. I discovered a deep passion for helping people transform not just their bodies, but their confidence and mindset.

Instead of going to law school, I followed my heart and opened my first gym right after college. That decision set the foundation for a career that has spanned over 20 years in the fitness industry. I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Exercise and Wellness, continuing to deepen my knowledge and expand my impact.

I’ve always believed that the most meaningful paths are the ones where passion meets purpose. I’m grateful that I took the leap, because it’s shown me that with drive, perseverance, and a willingness to pivot, you truly can create the life you want.

What is unique about your business?
What makes OHM Fitness truly unique is our use of cutting-edge EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) technology to deliver a full-body workout in just 25 minutes. It’s unlike anything else in the fitness space—low-impact, high-efficiency, and designed to stimulate over 90% of your muscle fibers simultaneously. That means faster results with less wear and tear on the body, making it ideal for all fitness levels, including those recovering from injury or just getting started.

But beyond the technology, what really sets OHM apart is the experience. It’s not just a workout—it’s a community, a lifestyle, and a space where people feel empowered and supported. We focus on personalized coaching, measurable progress, and creating an environment where people actually want to show up. It's the future of fitness, and it's built on both innovation and heart.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to our Agritopia neighbors?
As a local business owner and someone who's spent the last two decades in the fitness industry, my biggest piece of advice is to invest in your health like it's your most valuable asset, because it is. Whether you’re just starting your journey or looking to level up, consistency always wins. You don’t need to be perfect, just committed.

From a business perspective, I’d also say: don’t be afraid to pivot when your passion leads you in a new direction. That’s exactly what happened to me, and it’s how I found OHM Fitness. I saw an opportunity to bring something truly innovative to the community- EMS training that’s fast, effective, and sustainable for all fitness levels.

And finally, support local. We’re all in this together. Whether it's a workout, a coffee shop, or a family-run service, choosing local helps strengthen the entire community.
