What a Wonderful World

The Landrys embrace life with laughter, a sharp sense of humor, and just the right amount of sarcasm, reminding us not to take the best moments for granted.

When Pat and Marguerite Landry decided to make the move to Sugar Mill Pond in October of 2022, they were simply hoping to find a community that felt like home. What they discovered was something far greater: neighbors who quickly became friends and a sense of belonging they now treasure. “Getting to do life with these friends and neighbors has been one of life’s greatest blessings for our family,” Marguerite shared. “Every corner you turn, you see a smiling face waiting to say hello. Thankful doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

The Landrys’ story began years ago in the oil and gas industry. Marguerite had been assigned a temporary role at American Explorer, where Pat was working as a senior geological advisor. What started as professional overlap soon turned into something deeper. As Marguerite says with a smile, “the rest is history.”

Today, Pat continues to lend his expertise as a consultant geologist. Marguerite pours her energy into the children she teaches as an enrichment instructor at St. Anne’s preschool. Their daughter, Chloe, recently graduated from LSU with a degree in digital advertising and is carving out her career as a social media specialist with Burning Stick Creative. Marguerite also has an older daughter, Ashley, who lives nearby in Broussard with her husband, Brian. Ashley is an audiologist and owns her own practice, Selective Hearing, and Brian is the Assistant Manager and Beverage Director at Social Southern Kitchen.

Life in the Landry household is full of personality and plenty of humor. They describe themselves as authentically who they are, with a wicked sense of humor and just a touch of sarcasm included. Their two cats, Ellie and Maui, add to the lively mix.

Marguerite is known for her unforgettable gumbo, while Pat often contributes deer sausage he has harvested on mule deer hunts in Colorado and Wyoming. Meals like spaghetti, pork roast, and chicken sausage with rice and gravy often bring everyone around the table. On nights out, they are likely to be found at local favorites such as Poseidon Greek Restaurant, Superior Grill, Rock-N-Sake, or Pizza Village, and they never pass up the chance to grab a pick-me-up from Huya Coffee.

Though their interests are diverse, one thing the Landrys share is a love of activity. Marguerite keeps a steady rhythm of yoga, strength training, and bike rides around the neighborhood. Pat spends much of his time outdoors, whether fishing in Cocodrie or duck hunting along the Intracoastal. Chloe mirrors their energy, splitting her time between the gym, new hobbies like golf, and trips to Baton Rouge to cheer on her beloved Tigers. The family also enjoys simple evenings at home with neighbors, often gathering around a card table for a friendly game.

Holidays have brought about new traditions as well. Thanksgiving is now spent in New Orleans with Ashley and Brian, a celebration they look forward to repeating every year. And Christmas Eve has become a cozy evening at home, where the family wears pajamas and enjoys what they call a “soup flight,” a spread of different soups.

For the Landrys, Sugar Mill Pond feels like the perfect backdrop to this chapter of life. Surrounded by friends, family, and a neighborhood that radiates warmth, they are reminded often of the words of Louis Armstrong: “What a Wonderful World.”
