Resident Spotlight

Shouting out Sophia Anastopoulos, MJHS Class of 2022 graduate!

Sophia is 14 years and a resident of Lake Forrest. Sophia’s proud family includes her proud parents, Nick and Annette Anastopoulos, and three siblings, Leo (17)  and twins Lucia and Eli (11). She also has two dogs, Ted and Phoebe.

Despite the craziness of the last couple years, Sophia was determined to make the most of her time in junior high.  She participated in the Yearbook Club, Student Council, and Beta Club and helped organize a number of volunteer projects and events for students and their families. She did all this while continuing to excel academically. She especially enjoyed her ELA class at Minooka Junior High and shared that English has been her favorite subject. Sophia credits all of her teachers for helping her learn important life lessons that will carry her through her high school education and beyond. Although she will fondly remember her grade school days, especially spirit days at the junior high, Sophia is excited for high school in the fall.

Because of all of her hard work and achievements in junior high, Sophia was recognized with a number of awards and scholarships at the end of her eighth-grade year, including recognition for academic achievements in mathematics and communication at MJHS. She was also selected to receive a Heritage Award from JCA and received an American Legion Award at graduation. Sophia will be attending Joliet Catholic Academy and is looking forward to becoming an active member of her new school community. She will also continue to dance at Encore Dance Productions in Shorewood, where she has been learning and growing as a dancer for the last 10 years. Sophia performs and competes as a member of Encore’s competitive dance team as well.

Since Sophia is so busy during the school year, she’s looking forward to the summer months to rest and relax a bit. She is planning to try something new and attend tennis camp at JCA, go on vacation with her family, and spend time hanging out with her friends. When she gets older, she hopes to go to the University of Illinois to study business. Sophia’s advice for future eighth graders is to do your best and start working for your future goals now. Focus on the positives of junior high, although it can be tough at times. Sophia’s life motto is, "Work hard and enjoy the ride."

We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished so far, Sophia, and can’t wait to see where the future takes you! Congratulations to you and all of your fellow graduates!
