Meet our new Junior Writer

Sydney Abercrombie

Hello, my name is Sydney Abercrombie and I am the new junior writer for Quarry Living! I am 14 (almost 15 years old) and I am a freshman at Maumee Valley Country Day School. My family has lived in Greycliffe for almost 24 years and we have 2 rescue dogs and 4 rescue cats. Our two dogs are named Jazzy, who is a golden retriever, and Gracie, who is a black lab/pointer dog. Our cats are named Blizzard, Jack, Polly, and Cassie. My brother Josh is a senior at Maumee Valley and he loves sports! Josh is planning on going into sports analytics and statistics and is eager for college. My mom and dad, Jean and Gene (crazy isn’t it!), are both attorneys. My dad is a partner at Eastman & Smith and my mom is the VP of Human Resources at Sunshine Communities which you should definitely volunteer at!

About Me
My all-time favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls which now can be seen on Netflix. For movies, Monsters University is my favorite because I love Pixar movies and it’s so different from the other movies out there. My favorite singers are Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Harry Styles and my favorite song is Sunflower Vol. 6 by Harry Styles. Soon I will be going to an Olivia Rodrigo concert for her debut album: Sour which I am super excited about and can’t wait to go with one of my close friends. Something unique about me is that I really hate cheese but I still like pizza. Cheese overall grosses me out because if you think about it, it is just rotten milk but I still do enjoy pizza.

My Sports and Activities
Currently, I play field hockey for my school and if you haven’t heard of field hockey, it is basically ice hockey on grass but we have really tiny sticks (I’m not really sure why because it makes it really hard!). I play forward so my whole purpose on the field is to get as close to the goal as I can and try to score. One of the biggest parts of my life is music. I’ve been playing music for as long as I can remember! At the moment, I am playing violin and piano but I have played a variety of instruments over the years including guitar and ukulele. I would love to someday learn how to play the harp because it is such a beautiful and unique instrument compared to what I have played before.

The Best Things in Life
My three favorite things to do in life are making memories with my friends, reading books, and watching everything and anything on Netflix. My favorite genres of books are Mystery and Realistic Fiction. Honestly, I really enjoy any book that I can relate to because I can imagine myself as the character in the book. I also really enjoy taking walks in the neighborhood with my family and friends on nice sunny summer days. When I am older, I want to go into something in the psychology field. I am mostly thinking of being either a psychologist or a psychiatrist but really anything doing with helping people through life is what I want to do. I figured out I wanted to go into psychology around a year ago when I realized how much I loved learning people's stories. Feeling like I can make a difference in someone's life for the better and helping them through their struggles is truly why I want to go into psychology.
