Capistrano Upholstery and Draperies

Fine Upholstery and Draperies Since 2008

Capistrano Upholstery and Draperies is owned by Adriana Flores and her daughter Nadia. Adriana came to the United States in 2003 with her two children. Nadia, the oldest, and Aldo, the youngest. Shortly after their arrival, Adriana started working in the upholstery industry as a seamstress. Being in America awakened an entrepreneurial spirit in her, and with the help of a couple of already well-established upholsterers in the area, she ventured out on her own. In the beginning, Adriana worked out of their home garage.

Nadia and Aldo grew up playing with fabrics and wood as children, and as they grew up to be teenagers, they started helping with some of the labor and paperwork. As one gets to know this beautiful family, it is immediately apparent that family is the most important thing to them. It is from this foundation of familial love and faith that Capistrano Upholstery has its roots. The business quickly grew from word of mouth, and in 2008, Capistrano Upholstery opened its doors in the beautiful and sunny city of San Juan Capistrano.

San Juan Capistrano has been home to this family from the time the shop opened in 2008. Nadia and Aldo used to hang out at the San Juan Capistrano library and take bike rides along the creek to camp out at Doheny Beach. Nadia and Aldo both also developed a love of running. Aldo even got the chance to participate in the annual Turkey Trot in Dana Point. Adriana is a devout mother and an avid learner. Throughout the years, she has gained great knowledge from the designers she has worked with, and in 2019 she made the decision to start working on an interior design degree. Unfortunately, these plans were halted as the pandemic hit and classes moved online. This has not deterred her plans in the slightest, and she is still determined to pursue her degree. Adriana’s talent for Interior design is apparent as one walks into their beautifully decorated home. She is able to create not only an aesthetically pleasing space but an atmosphere of immense peace and serenity.

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry presented many challenges to Adriana. Gaining credibility proved to be the toughest. It didn’t take long, however, until the work spoke for itself. Adriana’s expertise is displayed in each and every piece of furniture, every drapery, and every custom piece.

There are many talented upholsterers all over Orange County, but none with the heart of a mother who understands the importance of creating a sanctuary out of our living spaces. This is what truly makes this shop so special. There is a deep understanding that every piece of furniture that is given new life at the hands of its craftsman serves a greater purpose than mere functionality. It is through personal experience and over a decade of serving their community that the owners and artisans at Capistrano Upholstery have learned that every person that comes through their doors with a new project does so out of a place of love for their family as well. Whether it’s an outdoor patio set in which family and friends can gather around in the summer, dining room chairs in which the family will gather around for Christmas dinner, or even just a sofa in which to unwind after work, this team understands that they play a great small part in making a house a home and making memories for families just like theirs.

Apart from the family values that Capistrano Upholstery has been founded on, sustainability and durability are also greatly important to this family business. Before the furniture market was globalized, all furniture in the United States was American-made. The best, and most durable furniture, is made of a single, solid piece of wood. After over a decade of seeing different types of furniture pass through their doors, with many clients deciding it is better to send their furniture to the landfill instead of reupholstering it, it saddened the owners of Capistrano Upholstery seeing how wasteful and damaging to the Earth fast-made furniture can be. For this reason, they decided to be a solution to this problem, and in 2022 they are set to launch a sister brand, Capistrano Furniture. They believe furniture should last for generations and that the Earth should be preserved for the same. After all the success Capistrano Upholstery has experienced, this new venture hopes to lead this team into the realm of significance, fostering a legacy for their own family.

It is also important to recognize the instrumental role the artisans have played in the success of this family enterprise. Fernando and Arturo have been two of the most instrumental team members of Capistrano Upholstery. Both have become family to Nadia and Adriana. Fernando’s work ethic and craftsmanship have greatly evolved throughout the years, and he has now become a partner in the new venture, Capistrano Furniture. Both of these family men take immense pride in their work, and nothing would’ve been possible without their invaluable help and talent. Last but most definitely not least, Nadia and Adriana attribute all of their success to their God. They believe that faith has been the determining factor in the success of their business. It is with this love of God, love of country, and love of family that this family extends their services to yours.

Nadia and Adriana are exceedingly grateful to Stroll Niguel Shores for the opportunity to share their story. It is not often that a business is given the opportunity to share not only the services they provide but the heart behind it. It is a great honor to be part of this publication that seeks to unite communities and the businesses that serve them. It is through this type of collaboration and community support that a community is strengthened and able to thrive. And it is through strong communities that a great country is built.
