Still Blooming

How the Wymberley Garden Club Cultivates Community

In the February 2025 issue of Stroll Isle of Hope, we shared the story of how three residents came together in 1952 to form what would become the Wymberley Garden Club—a group dedicated to nurturing the beauty of Isle of Hope. But the club’s legacy didn’t stop at planting live oaks or preserving scenic marsh views. Today, the WGC continues to flourish through its hands-on service, community outreach, and social connection.

Members can often be found maintaining the Wymberley entrance, clearing palm fronds along the Skidaway Causeway, or caring for the marsh front lot at the end of Richmond Drive—a serene overlook deeded to the club in 1987 and still maintained in its natural state.

To support its horticultural and environmental projects, the club hosts two annual bake sales. But its mission extends beyond beautification. Twice a year, members prepare and serve dinners to Isle of Hope’s volunteer firefighters as a heartfelt thank-you for their service.

The Wymberley Garden Club welcomes all residents—whether new to the neighborhood or long established—and no gardening experience is necessary. Meetings are held monthly, with a short summer break, and the calendar includes a few social events that bring neighbors together in meaningful ways.

Whether you're looking to get your hands dirty or just meet new friends, the WGC is a blooming example of how small efforts can yield lasting impact.
