Axellent Entertainment!
Ford's Colony residents enjoy an evening at Axe Republic hosted by Stroll Ford's Colony sponsor Lydia Hertzler, owner of this unique entertainment hotspot.

On April 20th a group of Ford’s Colony residents and Stroll Ford’s Colony sponsors gathered at one of Williamsburg’s favorite entertainment hotspots, Axe Republic, located in New Town. We were warmly welcomed by Axe Republic’s proprietor and Stroll Ford’s Colony sponsor Lydia Hertzler.
Jackson, our group’s designated AXEPERT got us started with safety instructions, as well as a lesson on how to throw. According to neighbors, Jackson was “super helpful, informative, and energetic.” He was also described as a “great instructor who gave great hands-on training.” For those of you who have yet to try this relatively new craze in entertainment, axe throwing is not as easy as it looks. But with good instruction and a little practice, by the end of the evening everyone in our determined group hit the target! Many will be back to perfect their form. Most in the group were first-time adventurers and, like Michelle McDermott, were excited to return with their adult kids and friends.
Our group enjoyed axe throwing and camaraderie, as well as a spread of pretzel and brownie bites along with chips and queso. Axe Republic offers additional shareables such as wings, mac and cheese bites, and honey garlic Brussel sprouts. Or those with a bigger appetite can enjoy their signature chicken and waffle bowl, pork sliders, or bacon cheeseburger empanadas. There is also an extensive list of domestic and craft brews, seltzers, and ciders, as well as wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages from which to choose.
Voted Virginia Living Magazine’s best entertainment center for adults of Virginia for 2022, Axe Republic offers a truly unique experience, perfect for a date or family night. Ford’s Colony resident Stacy Franken, owner of Mr. Rooter Plumbing, hit the mark with her staff when she recently held a corporate team building event at Axe Republic. It’s a unique venue for a customer or staff appreciation party, bachelor or engagement party, youth group outing, or even a baby shower. With 12 lanes for play, Axe Republic also offers an axe-throwing league with league seasons and socials throughout the year.
Our thanks to Axe Republic owners Lydia Hertzler and Matthew Murnion for hosting an evening of great fun and to our other sponsors who attended: new sponsor Joe Festa with Hall Acura; Correy Wilson & Jarmarcus King, co-owners of KRW Hardscapes; and Darryl and Kristi Hall, owners of Williamsburg Flooring & Design. Our sponsors are great supporters of the neighborhood and this magazine and we appreciate the chance to hang out with them!
