Meet MeLinda Kann of MeLinda K Design

MeLinda Kann of MeLinda K Design has been a powerhouse in the NY design market for 18 years. Called upon as a millwork specialist she finds herself to be an asset to the professional trades, as well as discerning clients, as the single point of contact in a turn-key execution from space planning to custom millwork and full-service interior design & styling. She began her career as “the kitchen girl” and has solidified her expertise with all levels of renovation and new construction from a solid foundation in fabrication, design, and project management.
The capital L in her name is a gift from her father when she was born and means “my pretty” in Spanish. MeLinda cherishes the distinction. She thrived scholastically and pursued theater performance & design before transferring to NYIT in Old Westbury to study Interior Design. While in college, MeLinda began working for an architect and custom cabinet shop. She honed practical skills in collaborating with design teams, drafting, field measuring, designing, understanding other trades and their processes, and building client relationships. She paid attention to each mentor as she fueled her dream of entrepreneurship and established a solid footing in the New York City & Hamptons luxury market in her own name, but it would not be possible without her team at home.
Together, MeLinda and her supportive husband Benjamin, married 7 years, have two littles added to their blended family - Brooke (14), Lena Faith (3), and Hope Grace (2). The toddler tornadoes are wonderfully adventurous, sweet girls who light up MeLinda’s life with purpose, joy, and laughter. Grandparents Samuel & Alma help in every way possible while MeLinda builds a legacy for her family by servicing her projects, working to open her own studio space in Islip Terrace, and taking on special projects like designing the laundry room in the Brooklyn Heights Showhouse. The studio is set up to be a ‘work lounge’ space tailored for consultation and review. Arteriors furnishings, limewash walls, black ceilings, and archways create a boutique atmosphere of bespoke design services for clients and trade specialists.
MeLinda has visited Cold Spring Harbor countless times for both career and life decisions. She has walked the trails of the state park for hours on end, rode with her husband on their Harley to the pier to skip rocks, dined at Sandbar for anniversaries, and frequented every boutique. MeLinda’s creative soul is found in small-town living, and she encourages residents to approach new projects with a designer who is thoughtful about the character of the area and implements that into the timeless architecture of the home through seamless millwork, clever space planning, and beautifully curated selections.
If you cannot find her on outdoor adventures with her daughters - hiking, biking, or at the first playground they drive by - then she’ll be working on crafts, baking, or reading with her minis. MeLinda has been involved with her local church, Lighthouse Tabernacle, since she was nine, and loves staging their annual Kids Camp and Christmas themes. She also enjoys planning events and has completed many set designs for musicals at her former high school after graduating. This fervor for a creative outlet translates into the gift of her motherhood journey, and her overall desire to uncover the full potential of something larger and more lasting than the obvious in the most creative way possible. Whether renovation or new construction, one room or the entire home, built-ins or furnishings, MeLinda K Design is meant for intentional, beautiful spaces.
